Back to the Basics

I just realized that within a matter of weeks, we will be back to the basics around our house.
You know, the baby basics.
Back to changing diapers, cleaning up spit up, and I will be nursing 2012 in more ways than one!
I get to start breast feeding for the next year of my life once again, losing sleep, forgetting to eat, do my hair, put on underwear or makeup.
These are the baby basics.
I will admit, I am looking forward to doing it all over once again but am very, VERY thankful this will be the last time I will be doing it.
So, bring on the diapers, spit up, umpteen loads of dirty poop soaked clothing…..I am up for the challenge one last time.
I can’t wait to snuggle and take in that netter than life new baby smell.
Oh, and the pink and oh so cute girly things I cannot wait to put Ellie in!
I think the hubby is going to take away my credit cards and cut off all my access to Etsy and Pinterest because I have a serious addiction to finding adorable things I want to dress Ellie in!
And seriously, where the hell were these sites when I had my 3 other children?
I would have done some damage!

The road to getting pregnant

Now that I am pregnant with baby number 4, I have started to look at things through a whole new perspective.
Both the Alex and I have friends that were not as lucky as we were to conceive naturally.
Actually, quite a few of our friends have only been lucky enough to start a family thanks to the help of a fertility doctor.
After thinking about it, if I were in someone else’s shoes and not able to get pregnant naturally, I would do everything in my power to get there.
In 2003, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) during a week long hospital stay and was told that I would be lucky if I ever conceived again.
I never followed up on that diagnosis but am very thankful that doctor was wrong.
When we decided to start a family together and were trying to get pregnant with Alexander, I’ll admit, I was worried in the beginning that it was taking so long. But after nearly 5 months of trying we finally had a positive result.
This time around, when we made the decision to add one more little one to the clan, I was more worried that my weight would be the factor that would keep us from conceiving.
Nope.
Within 2 months of trying, we got that positive result once again and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Baby Ellie!

Preparing for a new arrival

As the family and I prepare in every way possible for the arrival of Little Miss Ellie I thought now would be a good time to start jotting things down that we need to do, what we’ve done and start planning for the big day.  I also thought that while I am in the process of recording these things here it would be pretty cool if I looked back and shared my first 3 birth stories.  I’ve always had the intention to write them down for each of the kids so they would have them when they were older but the birth story is kind of like the baby book….one of those things that is forgotten over time.

So, first things first.
We have finally started getting things ready around the house.
We haven’t done a lot yet but we definitely made one big improvement.

Yes, Little Miss Ellie officially has a place to sleep once she arrives.
The Alex was kind enough to assemble the new crib we purchased last week.
I am quite pleased with our purchase since Ellie will have a bed that can grow with her.
We have also picked up a few clothing items here and there in addition to a nice supply of diapers.
And that, that is where our prepping ends.
We have yet to….
Get a car seat
Get a stroller
Get a bouncy seat
Get a swing
Buy crib bedding
Buy Wipes
Buy onesies
Pick up breastfeeding supplies
And the list goes on and on and ON!

Oh, but she does have a tutu already!

Breech Baby Breech Baby……

I had my Baby Ellie check up today.
I am currently in my 29th week of pregnancy.
That means that today I got to drink the dreaded Glu-Cola and have my blood drawn to check for gestational diabetes.
I have done this for every pregnancy and have always dreaded drinking that crap but understand that it is a necessary precaution. I’m hopeful that everything will check out fine as it did with each pregnancy before.

I also had an ultrasound today as well.
First thing out of the tech’s mouth…..
she’s still breech.

See, here are her adorable little feet sitting nice and low where they can kick me so hard I think her foot is going to pop right out of my lady bits!

Aren’t they cute?!
Needless to say, I am not a fan of the breech position and the location of her feet and am PRAYING she flips SOON!!!!!
The thought of her staying breech and my having to undergo a c-section is terrifying me!!
Yeah, I’m not a fan of being sliced open.

Other than that, she seems to be doing pretty good in the ol’ womb.
She tends to be a little camera shy and it doesn’t make it any easier to see her since the placenta seems to be obstructing our view of her.
Oh and she prefers to keep her little face turned towards my spine making it more difficult to catch a glimpse, but we were able to get a quick peek before she ran to hide.

Her chubby little cheek in this one just melts my heart!!

Of course as we are getting closer to the finish line we are all getting pretty excited around here.
I am hoping to start doing some shopping soon since we will need to purchase everything all over again.
Yep, a crib, stroller, swing…you name it….we need it.
Oh—except we don’t need a pack and play since a great friend of ours had one she never used and sent it home with us!

I have picked up a few little girly outfits here and there including a little black tutu and leggings that I cannot wait to see her in!

We are now to the point when we get to start going to the doctor every two weeks now which is also exciting.
In the meantime I am just praying that she gets herself out of the breech position or at least stops kicking so hard down there and that she will let me get some sleep….she tends to be a night owl!

Next appointment is November 4th so watch for an update then!!

25 Weeks

It is hard to believe that I am already 25 weeks pregnant.
I think what makes it so hard this time around is that I have somehow kept my weight gain to a minimum – right now I’ve gained right around 10lbs, which for me is damn good considering that my last 3 pregnancies I had probably gained almost 30lbs by now.
What can I say?
I’m happy.

Everything with little baby Ellie seems to be going well other than the fact that she is seriously stubborn. I am keeping my fingers crossed that at my next appointment on October 21st that she will be a little more cooperative and let us see her.

In the meantime, I have been looking a some pretty cute things that I can’t wait to pick up for her. It’s been so long since I was able to go in the infant girls department and purchase all that is girly but I plan on doing a lot of it.

I have also commissioned my friend Amber to create some cute little hats for bean and then of course a few for the other kids as well.  I can’t wait until they are done because I know they will be adorable!!  (Be sure to check out Amber’s creations in her Etsy shop.)

For now, here are a few things that I can’t wait to get my hands on for Ellie!
