How to Join a Community Development Project in Thailand

There’s no denying that Thailand is one of the most travelled destinations on our globe, and one that many people opt to volunteer in. While it’s often gap year travellers or university students that travel overseas to boost their career path, even families and couples are joining community development projects abroad to add meaning to their life while taking the chance to contribute to society.

Volunteering in Thailand

Deciding where and how to volunteer in Thailand is a pretty daunting prospect. While you can always head over on your own, volunteering through a professional placement with GroundRocks is a better idea.

This is because a professional and reputable company understand the process inside out and can help you join the right community development project for your goals. It takes all the hassle out of finding a relevant project on your own, trying to find accommodation, getting to the country and even finding out the best places to eat!

So, you’re then free to focus and dedicate all your time to the project.

There are a multitude of projects throughout Thailand, specifically in Bangkok, Surin and Chiang Mai. Each community development project concentrates on a particular area and makes sure that your special contribution adds to the sustainability and longevity of the project.

Different Kinds of Community Development Projects in Thailand

As mentioned, there are a myriad of programs in Thailand. Below, we have broadly categorised them. The duration of each project tends to vary depending on the particular project, however the minimum duration is just one week, with many projects extending for as long as 6 months. Projects include:

  • Orphanage programs
  • Medical internship programs
  • English teaching programs
  • Kindergarten programs
  • Teaching monks programs
  • Women empowerment programs
  • Elephant camp programs
  • Children’s homes programs
  • Journalism internships
  • Medical volunteer programs
  • Child care programs

Who Is Allowed to Volunteer in Thailand?

There really aren’t any hard and fast rules about who can join community development projects in the country. It just takes the right amount of dedication, patience, sincerity and, of course, enthusiasm. If you have these qualities, you can volunteer.

It’s worth noting that there are a few straight forward prerequisites, though, that you should be aware of before you apply to volunteer in Thailand, such as:

  • You must be ready to work hard and consistently
  • You must be at least 17 years or older when applying for the projects
  • You should be of sound mental health and good physical health
  • You ought to have an open mind along with a positive approach towards your projects
  • You should be able to add creativity to the projects
  • Ideally, volunteers should not have any past criminal records

That’s it! Volunteering is an exceptional way to explore the country and its culture while boosting your career experience. Volunteering abroad is highly rewarding. All you have to do to join a community development project in Thailand is get in touch today to find the best fit for your goals and your personality.

Pampers Invites You To Say #ThankYouNurses + Giveaway – Ends 11/25

After delivering 5 babies at my favorite local hospital, I have had my fair share of nurses and care givers. During each of my hospital stays, there was always that one nurse that I connected with, however I had never connected so well with a nurse as I did when Joey was born.

I will never forget arriving at the hospital the morning Joey was born, not only because it was the day we welcomed our little man into the world but it was also the day I met an amazing nurse named Ashley.

Not only did Ashley do whatever she could to ensure that I was well taken care of, she provided the same care for Joey and even Alex. We also connected on Facebook after my hospital stay and when Joey had his surgery back in 2013, Ashley made sure she was able to come check in on us.

Although Ashley has since relocated, we are still in contact, and now she is a mom too.

I know that I thanked Ashley over and over for her care and attention while I was in the hospital but honestly, there is no way to put into words just how thankful I am that she was my nurse that Sunday morning.

Celebrate Nurses

Pampers is launching the Thank You Nurses Awards program, honoring nurses across three award categories: Labor & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Postpartum.

Help OneSight #HelpTheWorldSee

I will never forget the day in 3rd grade when I had to go to the eye doctor with my mom. I knew that I had issues with my eyes before that day because I was already struggling with seeing the blackboard from across the classroom. Needless to say, I wasn’t surprised when I returned to school the next day sporting some fresh pink glasses.

That’s me, a few months later as a 4th grader at my birthday party rocking my sweet pink glasses.

Now that I have kids, I am not at all surprised that one of them has awful vision just like me and I’m sure out of the 3 youngest, at least 1 of them will as well. These days we are fortunate to be able to wear contacts (even though I wear my glasses most days).

Unfortunately, there are others, around the globe, who aren’t fortunate enough to have access to vision care and OneSight.org wants to help change that.

OneSight is an independent nonprofit committed to eradicating the global vision care crisis. Their promise is simple: they will not stop until the world can see.  Their mission is to provide access to eye exams and glasses to underserved communities around the world. This is done this through quality short-term care and long-term sustainable solutions. OneSight provides charitable and sustainable solutions to meet both the immediate and long-term vision care needs of underserved communities, both internationally and domestically. They believe that through permanent access and sustainable practices, vision care can become readily available to every community, country and continent in our lifetime.

Help OneSight

You can help OneSight today by making a donation. Even $1 makes a difference for the 1.1 billion without access to vision care.
