Over the last year, I have really enjoyed being a member of the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew.  As a mom with kids who suffer from seasonal allergies (as do I) I am always happy to share my tips with other parents on what they can do to help their kids as well.

On that note, check out these great tips from the Children’s Claritin Mom Crew!

Children's Claritin, Back To School, Allergies,

In addition to these great tips, I was also able to share some of these Children’s Claritin Back To School Survival Kits to help them to start the year off.

Get a Flu Shot, #GiveAShot at Walgreens #cbias

Being the mom of 5 happy and healthy children is something that I am extremely grateful for.  Right before the older kids went back to school a few weeks ago, they all made a trip to our family doctor for their physicals and to make sure they were all current on their vaccinations. Libby was the only one who didn’t have to get a vaccine, Zack managed to escape with just one while poor Alexander had to get 4 including a Hepatitis vaccine.

As a mom, I feel that it is my job to make sure my kids are safe and protected against things that can harm them, including illness, and with all of the germs they come into contact with at school, making sure they are up to date on vaccinations is important to me.

Although my kids are my top priority, I know that mine and my husband’s health is also very important and that is why we make sure that we are up to date on our vaccinations as well.

With flu season right around the corner, we all have an appointment with our doctor next month for our flu shots when the little dude goes in for his 2 month checkup….a family who gets vaccinated together stays healthy together. Thankfully we all see the same doctor and we can do this all in one trip.

Unfortunately, there are other adults out there who don’t have access to a doctor and think that for this reason they can’t get vaccinated.  During a recent trip to Walgreens to grab a few sale items I learned that Walgreens offers adult immunizations in their clinics.

With no appointment needed, you can walk right in and get not only a flu shot but other vaccines such as pneumonia, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis A & B and more!

Our local Walgreens has a nice little vaccine corner by the pharmacy where their immunization-trained pharmacists administer vaccines.

After talking with the pharmacist on the immunizations they provide, I learned that from now until October 14th, 2013 for every person who receives a flu shot or other immunization at Walgreens, they will give a life saving caccine to a child in a developing country through their ‘Get A Shot. Give A Shot.’ campaign.  With this partnership, up to 3 million vaccines will be provided to a child in need to protect them against life threatening diseases like measles and polio.

You can learn more about Walgreens and the Shot@Life program and find out how you can help a child in need and give them a shot at happiness and a healthy life by visiting their website.  Getting adult vaccinations is easy to do at Walgreens!  Check out more pictures from our trip to Walgreens on Google +.

No appointment is needed for immunizations but you are welcome to schedule one before your visit and you can do it easily online

Taking a Moment

From time to time, I like to take a moment and step back from the crazy, hectic day to day life in our home and reflect on all the great things we have been so lucky to have in our life and to our family.

This past weekend as I was preparing for our trip to Chicago, I noted that Saturday, November 17th was World Prematurity Day. On this day, I was very aware as this World Prematurity Day 2012, we celebrated our little preemie, Ellie, turning 11 months old.

When Ellie was born, at 36 weeks gestation, she had a few issues with breathing and eating but being the tough little chick that she is, she got over that rather quickly.

At 11 months old, Ellie is walking, babbling, feeding herself, drinking from a sippy and is the happiest baby I have ever met!

We couldn’t be more thankful for our little preemie!

Words of Encouragement – Can You Please Help?

Over the years, you have read things about my crazy best friend Natalie. Natalie and I have been friends for as long as we both remember. When my mom was younger, she babysat Natalie’s older brothers. As I grew up, Natalie became like a sister to me and her family is what I refer to as my second family, her parents are my other parents. To me, they are part of my family.

So….why am I seeking words of encouragement?
Natalie’s mom, Linda, the woman who has always been like another mom to me, the woman my kids call Grandma Linda….was diagnosed with cancer just over 2 weeks ago.
Last Monday she underwent major surgery to remove as much of the cancer as they could. After hearing everything the doctors did during her surgery, Linda has not been herself.
This cancer diagnosis is killing her before she has even had the chance to fight.
As of right now, we don’t know exactly how bad things are. What we do know is the cancer started as ovarian cancer and has spread to other organs but we are all hopeful she will beat this!

Now I have seen the power of prayer work in circumstances like these and I also know that words of encouragement from people in her life and complete strangers will help put her in the positive attitude that she needs.
