Well, here we are, the 5th of January and I’m sure you are all wondering how our clean eating is going so far this year. I have to admit, I thought it was going to be really hard but so far, we are doing pretty good. This past Friday night, Alex and I thought it would be best to take an hour to ourselves and head to Copps to stock up on the basics for a few meals since we are experiencing some severe weather here. Who wants to leave the house when it is going to be -20 to -55* F outside? Not this mom!
Since we are eating clean these days, the new health key™ system at Copps makes it easy for us to locate the products we need. I am doing my best to shop for items that are organic, gluten free and stocking up on as much fresh produce as possible.
The new health key system makes it so much easier to shop for the products that your family needs. Since our family is trying to eat cleaner, we look for items that are fresh, organic and sometimes even gluten free and vegan. I am also a huge fan of the new system because it makes it easier for Alex to go to the store and pick up the items on the list as well….it’s foolproof!
Not only does the new health key™ system at Copps make shopping easier, it also helps us make better choices and stick to our plan to eat clean in 2014. To be able to walk up and down the aisles and see products clearly labeled means I don’t have to sit and read ingredients on bottles anymore!
Since we are freezing here in Wisconsin, we decided to create some dishes that will keep our family warm over the next few days. When we get cold, we like to turn to a nice warm bowl of soup to warm us back up and soup is also a dish that the whole family enjoys.
With some fresh, organic produce from Copps along with some organic spices and free range chicken, Roundy’s Organic Rotelle pasta (and a few other items) we created some delicious Crock-Pot Chicken Noodle Soup that the entire family LOVED!
You can easily recreate this dish in your home by grabbing the recipe below and hitting your local Copps store for ingredients!
As I mentioned earlier this week, we, as a family, are dedicating 2014 to getting healthy. Planning meals and shopping for the neccessary items and ingredients can be a very daunting task when trying new things. For me, I have always had a hard time trying to dechipher which product was better than the other among the varieties sitting on the shelf in the grocery store. Thanks to Pick ‘n Save and their new Health Key System, our shopping trips are much easier and we are able to make better food choices.
The Pick ‘n Save Health Key System makes it easier for you to find what you are looking for and make better food choices by clearly labeling items throughout the store so you know if they are Organic, Vegan, Gluten Free and more including products marked as Low Sodium, No Lactose and the list goes on.
I really like the new labeling system and find that it not only helps me make better choices when shopping but it also saves me a lot of time when picking and choosing products that are right for our family.
In addition to the Health Key System, Pick ‘n Save has also made shopping easier for us with their Fresh Every Day initiative. Knowing that we can get fresh produce every day from our local grocery store makes this mom very happy and I’m even happier when some of it is locally grown!
On our most recent shopping trip, we picked up some fresh produce along with some Roundy’s Fresh All Natural Hand Trimmed Chicken Thin Sliced Breast Cutlets and some bottles of vinaigrette to whip up a fresh and healthy dinner for the family.
Our dinner started with dicing up a red onion, cucumber, 2 roma tomatoes and 2 avocados. From their, we tossed all of the fresh diced veggies in a bowl while grilling up our thin sliced breast cutlets on our George Foreman grill. Once the chicken was done, we diced that up as well, laid out a bed of fresh greens, sprinkled on some of our Chicken Veggie Slaw along with a drizzle of vinaigrette and our dinner was born!
This meal was easy to make and there was more than enough for our entire family. I love that it is such a versatile dish that it can be eaten on a bed of greens, in a tortilla or pita or you can even eat it as a dip and use crakers or chips.
Last month, I picked up a Concord Smartphone from Walmart and signed up for service with Walmart Family Mobilepowered by T-Mobile to test out their unlimited plans and see if their service would work for our family. Since our current mobile bill is our biggest bill, next to the mortgage payment, we were motivated to try a new provider so we can cut our costs and start saving some money in addition to finding a plan that will give us the coverage we need for the traveling we do during the holiday season.
My initial investment in the Walmart Family Mobile service was $49.88 for the phone (thank you Walmart for the Rollback on phone prices) and $25 for the activation kit, $3.97 shipping, plus taxes for a grand total of $83.19.
What did that $83.19 get me?
My phone and my first 30 days of service on the Walmart Family Mobile plan.
Little did I know that I was going to learn to love not just my service with this plan, but the savings too!
The great thing is, our contract is coming up with our current mobile provider and we are seriously considering making the switch when that time comes!
I’m happy to make the move since I can get a sweet Samsung Galaxy S4 with this plan as well.
I am already imagining the holiday savings we could build from the monthly savings we would have once we switch plans, we could actually take a little family vacation too!
Walmart Family mobile definitely offers the lowest price rate plan out there, and I’ve done my homework and shopped around.
I love that the Walmart Family Mobile service is powered by T-Mobile because I am able to get reception in areas I cannot with my current provider. Having coverage further North of Green Bay is a great thing with our family since we spend a lot of time up that way over the holidays visiting extended family. It is great to know that we won’t be experiencing dropped calls, others will be able to text and call us and if there is an emergency, we will be able to make a phone call when we need too!
For now, we will definitely be continuing our service with Walmart Family Mobile using our Concord phone. For the price of this plan, it is definitely worth the investment to keep the service so we have a phone that actually works when we are away from home over the holidays.
If we do make the switch to Walmart Family Mobile, the Concord phone would actually be a great gift to give our little Alexander. Although he is only 5 (almost 6) I would love for him to have a phone in an emergency so he could call me if he needed too. I love that smartphones are so smart that you can install apps and change settings to make them totally little kid friendly. Alexander is obsessed with calenders since he started school so I set up the calender on the Concord to display the days that are special to him.
He loves it when he sees the phone light up with a calender alert and he loves it even more when he sees his name on that alert!
If you have a teenager who doesn’t have a mobile phone yet and you’ve been thinking about getting them one, this is definitely the way to go. No need to worry about them going over their minutes when gabbing with friends, using too many texts or surfing the net and eating up your all of your available data. Give them a Concord Smartphone with Walmart Family Mobile for the holidays! The great thing is, the price is so low that when they transition and take the service over, the bill is extremely affordable.
Remember, for lest than $40 a month, you can get UNLIMITED Talk, Text and Web with Walmart Family Mobile and I’m confident you will get the best wireless service that you can receive and NO CONTRACT!
Knowing that this service will save us at least $160 each month makes Walmart Family Mobile look even better everyday!
Being the mom of 5 happy and healthy children is something that I am extremely grateful for. Right before the older kids went back to school a few weeks ago, they all made a trip to our family doctor for their physicals and to make sure they were all current on their vaccinations. Libby was the only one who didn’t have to get a vaccine, Zack managed to escape with just one while poor Alexander had to get 4 including a Hepatitis vaccine.
As a mom, I feel that it is my job to make sure my kids are safe and protected against things that can harm them, including illness, and with all of the germs they come into contact with at school, making sure they are up to date on vaccinations is important to me.
Although my kids are my top priority, I know that mine and my husband’s health is also very important and that is why we make sure that we are up to date on our vaccinations as well.
With flu season right around the corner, we all have an appointment with our doctor next month for our flu shots when the little dude goes in for his 2 month checkup….a family who gets vaccinated together stays healthy together. Thankfully we all see the same doctor and we can do this all in one trip.
Unfortunately, there are other adults out there who don’t have access to a doctor and think that for this reason they can’t get vaccinated. During a recent trip to Walgreens to grab a few sale items I learned that Walgreens offers adult immunizations in their clinics.
With no appointment needed, you can walk right in and get not only a flu shot but other vaccines such as pneumonia, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis A & B and more!
Our local Walgreens has a nice little vaccine corner by the pharmacy where their immunization-trained pharmacists administer vaccines.
After talking with the pharmacist on the immunizations they provide, I learned that from now until October 14th, 2013 for every person who receives a flu shot or other immunization at Walgreens, they will give a life saving caccine to a child in a developing country through their ‘Get A Shot. Give A Shot.’ campaign. With this partnership, up to 3 million vaccines will be provided to a child in need to protect them against life threatening diseases like measles and polio.
You can learn more about Walgreens and the Shot@Life program and find out how you can help a child in need and give them a shot at happiness and a healthy life by visiting their website. Getting adult vaccinations is easy to do at Walgreens! Check out more pictures from our trip to Walgreens on Google +.
No appointment is needed for immunizations but you are welcome to schedule one before your visit and you can do it easily online.
