Ambulances, ER’s and IV’s – Oh my!

The title of this post describes the events that occurred in my life this past Thursday night.

After the Alex left for work Thursday night, I finished watching my show and decided it was time to head to my desk and get some work done.  About 10 minutes after sitting down at my desk, my stomach began to hurt in a very, very bad way.  I thought I just needed to use the bathroom, so I excused myself from a conversation on Gmail Chat with @Blm03 and off I went.

After that….things get a little blurry.

I went to the bathroom.

I got very warm and dizzy.

The right side of my face started to stuff up.

Then it got hard to breathe.

Then my entire right side kind of went limp.

It’s really hard to describe.

All of this happened while I was sitting on the toilet.

I know….such a beautiful picture to paint.

Next thing I know I smacked my head on the wall/window frame because I blacked out.

I was beyond dizzy and couldn’t focus my vision.

It was pretty damn scary.

I had Zack call my dad and have my dad call 911 and get over to my house.

I knew something wasn’t right.

From there, I went to a stretcher into an ambulance. (Can’t wait to get that bill!)

I was having such a hard time breathing that I needed oxygen and my blood pressure was really low.

Once I got to the hospital I went through a series of tests and bloodwork.

It was soooo much fun.

I got an IV to administer fluids and some meds.

About 4 hours later, I finally got to leave.

Diagnosis….intestinal bleed and bowel infection.

NOT FUN.

I would not wish this on anyone.

Little did I know that I had been passing blood in my stools (EWWWW!!!!)

This is what led to my blood pressure dropping…or so I’ve been told.

So, now I sit at home taking some lovely antibiotics to fight the infection.

I am happy to report that I am starting to feel A LOT better!!!

Thanks to everyone who checked in with me on Facebook and Twitter after Zack reported his mom was in the hospital.

XOXO

On the mend

This is a compensated post written by me on behalf of Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you’ve been keeping up with me on Twitter, Facebook and well, even here on my blog over the last week then you know that I haven’t been feeling the best. I’ve had this awful cold, cough, aches and pains oh my gawd I feel like I am going to die thing going on.

Usually I am not one who will take a gajillion OTC meds to help heal me….really when I usually have a cold, I treat it with some OJ & Vodka. However, at this time in my life, I am trying to get pregnant so I’ve been staying away from the liquor cabinet and have had to use methods I normally wouldn’t to get healthy once again.

Then just like magic…. Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products entered my life via my mailbox.

No…seriously, they did.

I opened a purdy manila envelope to find Walgreens Multi-Symptom/Rest Easy Cold/Flu Relief Nighttime Liquid Caps.

It was like the heavens knew I was sick and this was their way of getting me on the mend.

So, I took the recommended dosage and off to bed I went.

I have to admit, these drugs….they delivered.

Gone was the cough and wheezing thing I’d had going on.

My body no longer felt like I had been slammed by a Mack truck.

And, I didn’t have the hangover I’d usually have from the OJ & vodka or from the pseudoephedrine since these drugs are 100% pseudo free not to mention these meds have a 100% satisfaction guarantee!

Getting Fit Update

2 weeks down and a long long way to go. I’m currently at an 11 pound weightloss and I am proud of it.
11 pounds is a lot but there is still a long road ahead.
I’m doing pretty good with sticking to good eating habits but I will admit that this past weekend, I didn’t eat so healthy.
It was a very stressful weekend and we went out to eat Saturday night for dinner and then the Alex and I went out for breakfast alone on Sunday morning and I indulged myself once again.
Needless to say, I’m working at burning those bad calories off and kicking myself in the ass at the same time!
I’ve been eating A LOT of fresh vegetables too and am enjoying it!
I’m anxiously waiting for Wednesday to arrive and for my new shoes to be delivered so the Mall walking with Alexander can resume.

Aren't they cute!?

I picked these bad boys up from Payless.com for under $30 with shipping thanks to the awesome coupon I found online.
I had been searching for a pair of shoes like these for quite some time but nobody stocks them in my size since I have ginormous feet!
I can’t wait to get them on my feet and put them to work!!

That’s all I have for now. I’m hoping for a good update next Monday when I weigh in again and I also hope to post some more recipes this week. I’m planning on trying out a new recipe for some yummy Oatmeal Raisin bar snacky things!

Can we get a group discount?

In my post on Monday, I briefly mentioned that my New Year didn’t exactly start off as I had planned and there are a variety of reasons for that.

You see, I rang in the New Year heavily medicated thanks to my good friends Percocet and Tylenol Extra Strength Rapid Release.
Did I mention that I was very, very, heavily medicated due to the fact that I was in excruciating pain?
Because I totally was.

We spent New Year’s Eve with the kids, my good friend and 2 of her children and enjoyed some deep fried foods for the last time.
That night went great and honestly, so was New Year’s Day (with the exception of the Wisconsin Badger’s losing the Rose Bowl—that was depressing. –Did I mention it was even more depressing because my cousin Mike is the Badgers starting linebacker?—Yeah, completely depressing!)

Moving on….the following day, Sunday, was even good because well…the Green Bay Packer’s kicked some Chicago Bear butt!

On Monday, Zack and Libby returned to school and I went to see the ENT for the 3rd time….you know after having already been in the ER three times between Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas in addition to that trip to my family doctor.

After my visit with the ENT, things began to look up.
That was Monday.
Tuesday came and went and everything went great.
And then…..then Wednesday arrived.
Wednesday evening, I found myself back in the ER.
This time, the Alex was the patient.
What happened you ask?
Well…..he managed to slice the tip of his right ring finger off while chopping apples for that night’s dinner.

The Alex before the Physician's Assistant (that we LOVE from a past experience) came in to check things out.

The Alex all bandaged up with a finger filled with Lidocaine to numb it and a prescription for some Vicodin!

Needless to say that night we found ourselves dining at the local IHOP with the kids since we didn’t get out of the ER until after 7PM and hadn’t fed the kids beforehand since you know, he was making dinner when the tragedy happened.

So, here I was, finally feeling better and now I had to take care of the Alex.
What I’m really saying is that I drugged him HEAVILY and sent his happy ass to bed!
I even let him sleep in the following morning until he was ready to get up.
I know……I’m such a nice wife!

This brings us to Thursday.
On Thursday, I had a great day.
I had a chance to hang out with both Alexander and the Alex which is a rarity since he works 3rd shift.
I picked my pseudo niece and nephew up from school after scooping the Libby from the bus stop and came home to get some work done, help prepare dinner and then head back to the school to pickup Zack from wrestling practice at 5:30.
At 5:13 PM, as I was getting ready to head to the school, I got a phone call from Zack’s wrestling coach.
The boy was hurt.
Something went awry during practice and he had been basically crushed between a kid 25lbs heavier than him and the mat…on his side.
Soooo…I went and got him, brought him home and saw the amount of pain he was in as the tears streamed down his face.
I packed the diaper bag, called my dad, loaded the family in the van, dropped Alexander and the Libby off by my dad and Zack, Alex and I headed to the ER…..again.

Yes….

For the 5th time within a 2 week time frame.
The 2nd time in less than 24 hours.

Headed down to x-ray to make sure nothing is broken

Thankfully the x-ray is clear! No breaks!!!!

After sitting in the ER for almost 2 hours, the boy was diagnosed with a muscle spasm in his trapezius muscle with orders to follow up with our family doctor on Monday.

From Thursday night until Monday morning, Zack was heavily medicated to help with the pain and inflammation.
I took him to see our family doctor for a recheck on everything.
New x-rays came back clear.
New diagnosis…..muscle spasm of the trapezius muscle, shoulder strain and chest wall contusion.

So, after 5 trips to the ER, 2 visits with our family doctor and 3 visits with the ENT Specialist, I think we should get some kind of group discount or at least given the option to enroll in a frequent visitor program with rewards!
