Goodbye Pull-Ups!

It has been 5 days since Alexander has used a Pull-up!
We couldn’t be happier!!!
This past Saturday I realized we were running low and that’s when I decided we were slapping the plastic liner on his mattress and having him take a nap in his underwear.
Nap time was a success.
When he woke up 1.5 hours later he went to the bathroom right away.
Saturday night we decided he would go to bed for the night in his underwear as well.
He was asleep shortly after 8pm and woke up at 2:30am because he had an accident.
Yes he had an accident, but this was progress….he WOKE UP!!
On Sunday, he successfully napped in underwear once again AND made it from 9pm Sunday until 6:30am on Monday in his underwear with zero accidents!
This has continued since.
Last night, he was so tired he had an itty bitty accident in bed but woke up and ran to the bathroom to take care of everything and then went right back to sleep and made it through the rest of the night.
I am SOOOOOOO happy!!
We are finally done with Pull-ups and we don’t have to buy diapers or wipes for Ellie for quite some time since we stock piled while I was pregnant!
Here’s to some extra money to put in savings for a down payment on a house!!!!

Potty Training Update: One Month Later

Exactly one month ago, we began potty training TaterTot. Let me assure you, this has not been an easy task for us.
Today, you can stop by our house for a visit and I can guarantee you that TaterTot will tell you that he is wearing either underwears or boxer briefs.

For the last month, I have to say we have been pretty successful. TaterTot is now going to the bathroom like a big boy all day long. We do experience the occasional accident here and there but really, there are not that many.

We are still using night time Pull-Ups when he sleeps since he does have a hard time controlling his bladder while sleeping but are confident he will begin getting himself out of them over the next month because he wants to be big and wear his boxer briefs to bed like daddy and Zack. He really just wants to be one of the boys.

I have to say that I am mighty impressed with the progress we made and know that things will only continue to get better. TaterTot is also aware that once he is completely out of Pull-Ups and 100% potty trained there is a nice present waiting for him.

Until then, I will continue to enjoy hearing TaterTot get excited when he poops in the potty and not in his pants!!!

I have also enjoyed the extra savings of not having to buy him Pull-Ups every week now and have started investing that money into diapers for Ellie when she arrives!!

Clogged: A Potty Training Update

Well, here we are coming to the end of week 2 on our potty training adventure with Alexander. After 2 weeks, I have to say we have been mighty successful. The little Alexander has only had a few accidents here and there. The best part is not one of those accidents has happened outside of the house! We have been to restaurants, a football game, the grocery store, even other people’s homes and not one accident!!
YAY TATERTOT!!

Oh, did I mention that he has also kicked the habit of doing the number 2 in the underwears?
He has!
He gets really excited when he does it on the potty and looks forward to the big flush at the end.
Alexander is also getting better during the night as well. On the nights that he does wake up in the wee hours, he does manage to go potty and I have also noticed he isn’t going in his Pull-Up as much at night either. So, until we go at least a week with a dry Pull-Up through the night, we are going to continue to use them for sleeping.

Now for the downfalls.
Since becoming a big boy and using the potty, Alexander has developed an obsession with flushing the potty.
Not only does he enjoy flushing it, he likes to flush things down it too.

As I sit here typing this, both of our toilets are out of order until my father gets done with work at 2am, makes the 45 minute drive from work home and stops here on the way…….I am pregnant with no potty.

Let me tell you, pregnant without a working potty is no fun!
No.Fun.At.All.

We know that one toilet is clogged with toilet paper, we just aren’t sure how much of it and if there is anything else in there. The other one is most likely blocked by a few cotton swabs we are sure he flushed earlier in the day leading to a clog.

Now, we’ve plunged and plunged and plunged to no avail.
My father in law came over and attempted to snake both toilets with no luck.
So. here I sit…..with two brand new wax rings just in case, waiting for my father—-PA the Great, to come to my rescue!!

Wish me luck!

Potty Training Update

As I have mentioned multiple times over the last few months, we have been working hard to get Alexander to make the move from Pull-Ups to underwear.
Potty training this time around has been an absolute nightmare!

And then this weekend, something magical happened.
I realized we were running extremely low on Pull-Ups and our diaper fund was pretty much exhausted.
At that moment I made the decision.
Since we would be spending the next 3 days mainly at home, Alexander was finally going to hang out in underwear for the entire day forcing him to either pee down his leg or use the potty.
Thankfully, he opted (for the most part) to use the potty!

Saturday went pretty darn good after he threw a fit for over 15 minutes that he didn’t want to wear underwear and wanted his Pull-Up.
But I, as the mom, am one smart cookie.
I had the Zack conveniently stash all of the Pull-Ups where the toddler couldn’t find them and told him they were all gone and all we had left were nighttime ones.
Apparently lying to your 3 and a half year old does get you somewhere!
Within minutes he was rocking some awesome Buzz Lightyear undies.
We survived Saturday and he only had one accident in his undies.
Sunday was another good day but Monday proved to be even better!

Monday morning, Alexander was hanging out in nothing but his undies and wanted to wear his new Iron Man costume.
I explained to him that he could wear it but he had to be really careful and not pee in it because mommy couldn’t wash it if he did.
Now, he absolutely cherishes this costume.
This again was another tool that worked for us because the minute he had to go potty he came running for help to get the costume off and into the bathroom.
Afterwards he told me, “Iron Man pees on the potty”!

That evening he successfully used the potty while we were visiting his Gramma and Bumpa and then he even pooped on the potty that night!!!

This brings us to today, Tuesday.
We had a slow start after he injured himself last night and mommy thought snuggling was a little more important this morning.
He woke up looking like this after a face plant to the kitchen floor last night.

Needless to say the morning started out a little rocky, including poopy underpants.
But as the day went on things began to look up.
The Alex and I took Alexander out to lunch.
He successfully used the kids size urinal.

Then this afternoon, he went in the potty all by himself and peed without any assistance or being prompted to do so.
And a few hours later, he let us know he had to poop and did it on the potty!!!

This evening on the other hand has been a little rough but I contribute that to his being extremely over tired due to the lack of a nap.

Here’s hoping tomorrow is a S-U-C-C-E-S-S!!!!

**Update: As I hit Publish on this post, Alexander was in the bathroom once again, unassisted going pee in the potty like a big boy!!

Woe is me

We are potty training.
This is the 3rd time I have gone through this since becoming a mom.
One would think it would get easier with every child.
Oh how I wish!
My little Alexander is by far the hardest trainee I’ve had.
Don’t get me wrong, he will go on the potty every time you take him BUT
He will also pee in his Pull-Up and come running to tell you instead of telling you he has to go potty first AND
HE WILL NOT POOP ON THE POTTY!
I’m at a loss.
I don’t know what else to do.
He’s 3 and starts Preschool in September.
Preschool that we have already started paying for.
Preschool that he HAS TO be potty trained to attend.
I have really tried everything with this kiddo.
I’ve bribed him with toys, stickers, candy, Buzz Lightyear and Cars Pull-Ups and even all kinds of cool underwear with all of his favorite characters on them.
Not to mention the AWESOME Buzz Lightyear and Elmo potty seats and the nice comfy potty chair.
My oldest, Zack, was by far the easiest to potty train and was wearing the big boy undies by the time he was 2 and the Libby was all set before she turned 3 and now this little man is just giving me a run for my money!
I just don’t know what else to do but am open to any and all suggestions from all of my other bloggy friends.
