This year I have been trying to become a better me. Yes, it has been hard but I am slowly learning to deal with the changes and make sure that I am taking better care of myself.
So far in 2012, our family has given up fast food and we are still going strong. We have steered clear of those dangerous drive-thrus since 2011 and have no desire to return to them….EVER!
Another change I have made is to find a little more me time. Although it is not much and it doesn’t really happen until after all of the kids are asleep, I have started reading again every free chance I have.
I have also managed to cross a few other things of the list as well for not just me but the entire family. Last year, we enrolled in a new dental plan through Alex’s employer. The new plan offered us better dental insurance for just a little bit more money. Unfortunately right after we made the move and the plan became active all but one of the providers located near us dropped from the plan and the only provider that we could see was only at our local office 2 days a week with very short hours. Needless to say, we missed out on going to the dentist all of 2011 but we have all been taken care of so far this year!
Next on my to do list is to get into the eye doctor for a checkup and get some new glasses since I have been wearing the same pair for the last 2 years and desperately need a new pair.
After that I am going to work harder to keep losing weight and exercise more and continue to clean up my diet…..right now I have some bad addictions that I really need to kick to the curb.
As you may know, I have been working hard at shedding pounds and getting healthy. So far I have lost 29 pounds, quit smoking, and given up some of my favorite not good for me foods.
One food that I love is cereal and there are many different flavors out there that I enjoy. My top favorite though….Lucky Charms. I love me some marshmallows! However, I am a big fan of Multi-Grain Cheerios as well but I use them as a snack item.
Since weight management is more than just watching the calories, I have to make sure that I am getting the proper nutrients from the foods I am eating and by eating Big G cereals I know that I am including whole grain and nutrient-dense foods into my body.
Every Big G cereal contains at least 8 grams of whole grains per serving, with more than 20 Big G cereals delivering 16 grams or more. (At least 48 grams of whole grain are recommended daily.) A diet high in whole grain has been found to help with diabetes and weight management, and may help reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers.
Frequent cereal eaters tend to have healthier body weights (and that includes people who choose sweetened cereals).Cereal eaters consume less fat, less cholesterol and more fiber than non-cereal eaters. Cereal consumption as part of an overall healthy lifestyle may play a role in maintaining a healthy body mass index.
According to “The Belly Fat Prescription,” by Dr. Travis Stork, MD and host of The Doctors, a large amount of research has shown that belly fat carries more health risks than fat stored elsewhere. In his book, Dr. Stork also offers several additional “Laws of Leanness,” including:
If you love to graze: Nosh all day long on your favorite fruits and vegetables to help keep your belly full
If you love fatty foods: discover which fats can actually strip away pounds
If you love soda: substitute more delicious drinks that can help you lose up to four pounds in four weeks.
You can visit Whole Grain Nation for more tips and information about the benefits of whole grain and how Big G cereals can be a convenient and tasty way to help you manage your weight by incorporating whole grain into your day.

2 weeks down and a long long way to go. I’m currently at an 11 pound weightloss and I am proud of it.
11 pounds is a lot but there is still a long road ahead.
I’m doing pretty good with sticking to good eating habits but I will admit that this past weekend, I didn’t eat so healthy.
It was a very stressful weekend and we went out to eat Saturday night for dinner and then the Alex and I went out for breakfast alone on Sunday morning and I indulged myself once again.
Needless to say, I’m working at burning those bad calories off and kicking myself in the ass at the same time!
I’ve been eating A LOT of fresh vegetables too and am enjoying it!
I’m anxiously waiting for Wednesday to arrive and for my new shoes to be delivered so the Mall walking with Alexander can resume.
I picked these bad boys up from Payless.com for under $30 with shipping thanks to the awesome coupon I found online.
I had been searching for a pair of shoes like these for quite some time but nobody stocks them in my size since I have ginormous feet!
I can’t wait to get them on my feet and put them to work!!
That’s all I have for now. I’m hoping for a good update next Monday when I weigh in again and I also hope to post some more recipes this week. I’m planning on trying out a new recipe for some yummy Oatmeal Raisin bar snacky things!
The Alex and I have made it our goal this year to get fit and shed the extra pounds.
His goal is to lose 60lbs.
For me, the goal is more then double his.
My goal is to lose 169lbs.
Yes.
I am THAT overweight.
And yes, I am disgusted by that.
So far, we have started on the right path.
I will be posting my progress on my blog and you will be able to follow it by navigating to the Getting Fit tab in the menu bar.
I’ve also posted a really cool ticker at the top of the Getting Fit page that will show you my current weight loss and it will update regularly.
My weight is something I have struggled with for a very long time.
I’ve tried diet after diet after diet and have had little success.
I am now at a point in my life when I am sick of being the fat girl and want to be healthy.
I want to be there for my kids and be able to participate in activities with them.
I am not on this journey just for me, but for my family as well.
Now, we haven’t joined a weight loss program, had any type of surgery or found some new fad celebrity diet.
We are simply tracking what we eat based on calories.
Right now, we both consume WAY TO MANY calories a day.
We’ve both cut out the bad foods in our diet and have started to measure what we are eating in order to control our portion sizes.
Have you ever actually measured out the serving sizes on a bowl of cereal?
It’s actually A LOT!
We have both installed the MyFitnessPal App on our Android phones and are using both the mobile app and computer based version to track the foods we are eating, our weight loss, exercise etc.
For now, I am outta here. Time to head into the other room and break out my new Biggest Loser game for the Wii and get some exercise in!
Toodles!
