Changing Careers: Work With What You Already Know

Changing careers is never a bad thing, but it can be a tough thing to achieve successfully. It’s one of those things that is almost akin to the saying age is just a number. The working world is very conscious of the fact that age is and isn’t just a number. Talent is talent, that much cannot be denied. However companies want to invest in younger people because they can see that a certain person in their early or late 20s might give them more years. However even if you’re older and in your 40s or perhaps 50s, your talent can bring you up to or even sometimes over what a young person might be looked at as. As mentioned talent is talent and companies want a professional that has the credentials and the experience to add to their business. As a parent or perhaps a mature woman, what could be your options?

Who doesn’t love cooking?

It’s simply the truth but sometimes people get a little agitated as they don’t want to be put in a box, but parents can cook. Full time moms are always in the kitchen making meals for the whole family. You know what to do and why, when it comes to preparing meals and getting the ingredients ready. You understand food because you have learned to keep your family well fed. But since you are going out into the world of work and want to start on a new path, you should give the culinary world a try. If you love to bake, try to get a job in a bakery. If you are very skilled in a particular cuisine because of your heritage then look to work in a family restaurant or specialist business. These talents you have learned and used to feed the family can now be used to earn yourself a salary.

What makes them tick

Children will show you that you have a way with understanding and solving their issues. They might be frustrated with homework or perhaps the complex peer pressure they go through at school. They will teach you things about their culture as the younger generation and with your life experience you can offer solutions. If you have already done all this with your own teeangers you are already in a fantastic position to use these skills. With a msw degree you can begin work in the professional field with a license that is going to be incredibly useful to opening doors in the social care field. You can decide where you want to work and in what sector of the industry. Many times parents who have got such a degree will want to enter into the school or mentoring sectors as they get to work with children going through their educational phase. Working closely with teachers and even politicians, you can begin a brand new career right in the thick of the action.

Work with what you already know when it comes to career changing. Now that you have raised your family and learned about children and their young minds, you can enter into the social care field. You might also want to utilize your cooking skills to work in a restaurant as a cook.

Preparation In Progress! Starting A New Career Later In Life

When you are helping your child to figure out what they want in life, you know the importance of choosing their ideal career. After all, they will be spending a third of their life working, so they’d better make it count! But have you thought the same? We can look at our children, and the journey they have ahead of them and think that we need to work towards our dreams more. Life gets in the way, but when it gets to a point where we could benefit from a career change, we can shoot down the idea. But what does it really take to navigate a career change successfully?

It’s Not Always Your “Dream” Career

So many of us believe we are going to feel transformed if we get our dream job. It’s not about the job; it’s about making sure we’ve fulfilled our purpose. Some people have no idea what they want to do, and they can fall into a career that ticks all the boxes, or at the very least, most of them. So if you are none the wiser, the best starting point is to find a career where you can help others so you can help yourself by proxy.

The World Of Resources

The great thing, especially if you’re a stay at home parents, is that you can really do as much research as humanly possible. And once you decided what you’d like to do, you can even train towards it without leaving home. If, for example, you want to work in the medical industry, there are numerous DNP NNP programs you can complete online. But in addition to this, for those people who don’t necessarily have an idea of what they’d like to do, the abundance of career questionnaires can sometimes throw a career curveball that you hadn’t considered!

Navigating The Transition

It can take years to have the necessary skills, and so if you are to go from one career to another, or make the leap from being a stay at home parent to a full-time worker, you’ve got to ensure that the transition is done successfully. For example, saving up adequate funds just to give you a buffer can help, especially during that first month where you’re not receiving a paycheck, but you also have to ensure that you are ready. It can be a very stressful time, but this is something that you will have worked towards.

If you think that you’re too old to make a career change, you should take inspiration from the millennial generation, who are chopping and changing careers numerous times in their life. These days, it’s not about the one career, so many people make a change in the middle of their life, and if you are looking for something to do to accommodate your days, or you are looking for a means to meaning in life, a career change can provide a lot of the answers. But you have to remember that it’s a lot of preparation in the progress, so think hard!

7 Hacks for Cleaning Your Car

Cleaning the family car is never a fun task and something I hate to do. Over the years I have found some great hacks for not only cleaning the car but also for helping keep things clean. Check out these great tips to cleaning all the nooks and crannies in your car and keeping other areas clean.

1. Remove Dirt from Vents and Small Crevices

Ever try to figure out how to remove all the dust and dirt that your car accumulates in and around the vents, around the windshield and all of those other small crevices? Easy, grab a pack of foam craft brushes and use them to clean out/dust all of those spots. They get the job done and you can easily wash and reuse them.

2. Keep Cup Holders Clean

There is nothing I hate more than discovering something spilled in my cupholder and it’s all sticky and gooey. They are a pain to clean out since you can’t remove them and are never the same after the first spill. Save yourself the trouble and line them all with a silicone cupcake liner so all you have to do is remove and clean the liner.

3. Clean Your Car with a Coffee Filter

Yes, you read that correctly. You might not believe it but coffee filters are great for cleaning your car. They work to remove dust from your dashboard, lint from the seats, and if you dip them in a solution of vinegar and water, they work great to remove light stains and dirt as well!

4. Shine Your Dashboard and Door Handles

Have you ever noticed that over time your dashboard starts to get dull as well as other plastic panels and areas in your car? You can make them shiny and new again by oiling it all with extra virgin olive oil or even coconut oil. Just rub it all over using one of your disposable coffee filters and then buff it all with a new coffee filter to remove the excess oil.

5. Make Your Car Smell Good

There are a variety of ways you can make your car smell good. One of my favorite things to do is tuck dryer sheets under and in between the seats. Another great trick is to put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on a clothespin and then clip it to your air vents.

6. Revive Your Car Mats

If your car mats get heavy usage then they probably get quite dirty like mine. You can easily clean your floor mats and make them look new again by spraying them with a stain remover and then tossing them in your washer and letting them air dry.

7. Save the Backs of Your Seats

Since we live in Wisconsin, the weather tends to get a little nasty and I have kids in the car that have dirty shoes. Something I dislike is the backs of our seats to get dirty. When I bought my latest van, I immediately order some kick mats for the back of the seats where the kids feet hit to help keep them clean.

After your car is nice and clean, check to make sure it is current on routine maintenance and if not, schedule an appointment at your local dealership, such as Barkau Chrysler Dodge.

Left out and unloved? How to banish the singleton’s Valentine’s blues

There’s no point in sugar-coating it; if you’re single on Valentine’s Day, it sucks. Or does it? If you are paired off come mid-February there’s always the pressure to mark the day in a meaningful way with your partner; however that may be. But preferably differently to how you did the year before. If you’re on your own, there’s no such stressful need… or is there? What if you’re single but would rather not be? What do you do on Valentine’s Day then? Wallow? Mope? Walk about dejectedly mumbling under your breath that nobody loves you and never will? No, of course not, silly – you try out one of these four suggestions, of course…

Have a right good laugh

Is laughter the best medicine? Find out! Being amused and laughing out loud boosts endorphins and keeps that stress-driving cortisol hormone at bay, lifting your mood and putting you in a better state of mind. Honestly, it’s a scientific fact. So why not bury yourself in merriment this February 14th? Have a movie marathon of your favourite comedy flicks and/ or sitcom box sets. Or head out with a mate to a local comedy club and laugh yourself stupid along with something alcoholic while listening to the jokes and japes of a professional stand-up. Just don’t sit on the front row!

Round up the girls and have a singles party

It’s more than likely you know others who’ll be stuck in Singleville on Valentine’s Day, so why not invite them over to yours for an unashamedly indulgent singles party? Make sure they bring along lashings of snacks and, of course, the obligatory bottles of plonk. Alternatively, why not all of you head out on the town? It’s the perfect excuse for a girls’ night out – and, yes, an evening of karaoke – or even a truly indulgent night out on the tiles when you can all go somewhere stylish and really glam up. How about throwing on one of those long prom dresses at the back of wardrobe?

Spoil yourself rotten

Buck the trend and make Valentine’s Day all about you. Plan a day that’s totally focused on you; one that’s geared to making you happy. In other words, have a full-out, unequivocal ‘me day’. Sounds great, right? Of course it does. Quite frankly, it’s a good idea whatever stage you’re at in life to have a day that’s all about you now and again. What does this mean? Well, just own the day. Fancy kicking back and rewatching your favourite movie? Do it! Or OD-ing on an entire season of the latest thing on Netflix? Jump to it! Or buying those irresistible women’s Chelsea boots from Mr Shoes? Pull out the credit card! Or getting pampered and receiving some serious R&R at the local spa? Get on down there! Or even popping down to that posh hotel in town for afternoon tea, like you’ve always intended to? Gather up your bestie and sate your taste buds! Whatever you fancy – Valentine’s Day is officially *your* day.

Meet up with someone who means a lot to you

Finally, eschew the convention that Valentine’s Day’s all about amorous love and make it about platonic love. Who wrote those rules anyway? If you haven’t caught up with one of your very best friends, a much-loved relative or an old, old acquaintance you haven’t chatted to in so long, why not scratch that itch and have a proper, good catch-up with them? It’s bound to warm those deep-down cockles of the heart and renew your faith in human connection amid all the pressurised, paired-off Valentine’s palaver. And the best thing is, thanks to the power of social media (i.e. Skype), distance is no object nowadays – you can connect with anyone wherever they may be in the world. It’s (so) good to talk!
