Using Feng Shui to Harness Harmony & Positive Energy in Your Home

Many families know first-hand how difficult it can be to manage a busy household; with school, work, and other schedules constantly keeping everyone in the family on their feet. When schedules get especially hectic it can quickly become difficult to keep up with household maintenance – leaving you stressed and overwhelmed while your home becomes messy and cluttered.  Creating a harmonious and inviting environment in your home can help you better manage your stress and help you feel more comfortable during those precious moments of relaxation.

An increasingly popular method of creating harmony and positive energy in the home is implementing ancient Chinese balance techniques of Feng Shui. The practice of Feng Shui works to balance the Chi, or universal energy, in the home to help promote a healthy and harmonious exchange of energy around throughout the house that allows you and your loved ones to relax in pure comfort. There are plenty of simple yet effective ways to channel positive Chi and increase the Feng Shui of your house:

  • The front door is viewed as the mouth of the chi, where all good energy enters into the home. Make your entryway and front door inviting and avoid placing mirrors or other distracting elements in this space that can reflect or displace positive energy, preventing it from circulating through the home.
  • Avoid using harsh overhead lighting, as they can leave a room feeling stark and isolated. Instead focus on soft, serene, and warm lighting that can be dimmed or adjusted or use candles to help you better control the energy of Feng Shui according to your mood.

  • Feng Shui teaches that the windows are the eyes of your home. Create focal points in a room by allowing the window to serve as the centerpiece, arranging furnishings and other accessories around it correspondingly.
  • To further increase the balance of energy from the window choose window treatments such as draperies that can be pulled back to allow maximum natural light into the room, as sunshine elevates both your mood and the level of positive energy.
  • Draperies and similar window treatments that don’t hinder accessibility help increase not only natural light, but airflow as well – as both air and wind carry positive energy and are associated with good health and well being.
  • Try using natural fabrics for your window treatments to help contribute to the positive Chi of the home by adding the feeling of softness and comfort to a room.
  • In the dining room, a round table with upright chairs will allow chi to flow more freely through the space than with strong or structural tables that have corners and hard edges.
  • Color is a great way to shift or control the energy of the home. In Feng Shui; colors within the fire and metal elements such as reds, oranges, pinks, and bright whites help foster passion, energy, clarity and precision. Colors within the earth and water elements, on the other hand-cultivated nourishment, stability, and ease and include light yellows, beiges, and blues.
  • Lacking an effective mix of scale and balance can leave a room feeling disjointed – reduce clutter and avoid spreading small furnishings sporadically rather than keeping them together. Matching elements will help add symmetry, harmony, and formality and easy to accomplish with accessories such as lamps, mirrors, or chairs.

In the same way that practicing Yoga and Pilates helps many decompress internal stress and foster good health, practicing Feng Shui techniques in your home helps dissolve the external stress created by negative chi and stagnant energy. Following simple steps like these, from color play to updated window treatments to furniture arrangement, will allow your family and loved ones to feel more comfortable and secure in your home than ever before – helping you more effectively balance your hectic lives and busy schedules with ease and peace of mind.

Controlling Your Cholesterol Levels

People have a habit of saying that past time was much better. It is in our nature to remember all the positive things that have happened to us in the past while disregarding all the issues that were burdening us during that period.

However you put it, nowadays, we live in a modern, scientific society where every product or service is at the tip of our fingers. We are able to attain high comfort even though we may have standard economic possibilities. Unfortunately, all of that comes at a price. This high living standard comes together with high physical expectations. We are working all day long, susceptible to stress and having little time for ourselves and our families. At the same time, we don’t have any time to train or take care of our bodies. This can lead to various conditions such as increased cholesterol and ultimately heart attack.

Cholesterol is type of fat which is produced in the liver, but it is also introduced into our system through food. It is important for the synthesis of hormones belonging to corticosteroid group among which are sex hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone). Besides that, it is necessary for the production of bile salt without which we can’t digest fat properly. It is also necessary for the formation of the cellular membrane. Given all of this, we can easily say that the cholesterol is one of the most important elements of our organism. We find it in our blood and 5.2 mmol\l is the maximum concentration of cholesterol in it.

Increased level of cholesterol is very dangerous for your health and together with diabetes, increased blood pressure and smoking; it is one of the main causes of various heart issues. When we say the concentration of cholesterol in the blood, we usually refer to LDL or low-density cholesterol. This is bad cholesterol, the one that causes all of the fore mentioned problems. Its concentration should be lesser than 3.4 mmol\l. At the same time, HDL is high-density cholesterol and it protects our arteries from LDL and blood clogs. Its concentration should be 1.6 mmol\l or above.

People that have a family history of various heart conditions, strokes, or those that are smokers, should start regularly controlling their cholesterol from the age 20. Even if your cholesterol level is in order, you should continue checking yourself on every three years. Females usually have a smaller risk of heart attack due to the influence of hormones, estrogen in the first place. Unfortunately, this is only true until menopause. After menopause, given that the level of estrogen is lower, they have same chances of heart issues as a man.

Today, you can easily control the level of cholesterol in your body. Have in mind that, in order to reduce the level of cholesterol, you will need to perform various changes in your life style. As you can presume, you should start with diet and avoiding fat and sugar food. Afterward, you will need to start exercising so you can reduce the level of LDL in your blood. Finally, you can use medicine for cholesterol which can be found in any online pharmacy such as YouDrugstore.com.

Traveling with a Large Family

I’ll admit, over the years, as our family has grown, we have traveled less. Back when we had 3 kids, we used to take small road trips through Wisconsin and plan all kinds of fun things to do.

Hanging with a Hodag!

I miss those days and I’m hoping to start planning some new things soon.

Zack and Libby are both at the age where they don’t want to go with us to do things and I understand that, they are teenagers.

These days we tend to plan our road trips around the little kids and what they want to do and that means we spend a lot of time playing in parks, swimming, children’s museums, movies and more.

What are some things you do when traveling with your large family?

Taking Advantage of Your Town

With a large family, there are a lot of things we are limited from financially.  We don’t get to travel a lot unless it’s a quick day trip or I manage to secure some awesome deal on a hotel.  Honestly, we try to do things that are budget friendly.

One way we are able to save money is by attending local events that are free or low cost.  It’s not always easy to locate events, but I do turn to local resources like our visitors and convention bureau, park and rec program guides and whatever I can find on the internet.

We love to experience the different festivals, celebrations and fairs our community has to offer throughout the year.

Living in a football town (GOOOOO PACKERS!!!!) we are lucky to have a lot of local events that are open to the public, these have been a lifesaver.

If you are looking to get out with the family and explore your town but don’t know where to start, I recommend visiting your VCB, checking out bulletin boards at the library and just exploring!

It’s amazing what you find when you look in your own backyard!
