I think I mentioned in the past that I LOVE Greek food. Greek salads, gyros, baklava, pastitsio, moussaka….basically all Greek food. There is just something about it that makes my mouth water.
If I could eat one Greek dish everyday, it would be gyros. They are soooooo good!
Over the weekend, Alex made Crock-Pot Gyros with homemade Tzatziki sauce and they were absolutely delicious!
Not only were these gyros and tzatziki sauce yummy, they were both super easy to make!
For the gyro meat, you will need:
-Crock-Pot
-1lb ground beef
-1lb ground pork
-2 yellow onions sliced
-2tbsp minced garlic
-2 tsp Greek seasoning (we used Cavender’s All Purpose Greek Seasoning found in the spice aisle at our local grocery store).
To make your meat:
1.Spray your crock-pot with a non-stick spray to make clean up much easier!
2.Spread your sliced onions out in the bottom of the crock-pot.
3.Add minced garlic on top of the onions.
4.Next, mix together your meat and Greek seasoning in a bowl. Once mixed together, form the meat into 2 loaves and place them on top of the bed of onions and garlic.
5.Cook on low for 3.5 hours.
For the tzatziki sauce, you will need:
-2 cucumbers (peeled, seeded, and chopped)
-16 ounces of plain Greek yogurt
-1 teaspoon of Greek seasoning
-1 teaspoon of lemon juice
-1 teaspoon salt
To make your tzatziki sauce:
Combine all ingredients in bowl, mix well, cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Once your meat is done and you are ready to serve, slice your loaves of meat into this slices, place on a pita with onions, tomato if you wish and tzatziki sauce and enjoy!
