As you know, Facebook has changed their algorithm for business pages so that not everyone that ‘Likes’ a page sees the updates being posted. In order to make more money, Facebook has started charging to ‘Promote’ a post for you so that it reaches more people. When I learned of this, I thought it was time to take that FREE $50 Facebook advertising credit Mark Zuckerberg gave me and do a little research.
On Thursday, May 31st, I posted the following update on my fan page:
Hello friends of The Megalomaniac Mommy!! Could you do me a favor and Like this post if you see it! I am trying to figure out the adjustments Facebook has made and want to ensure you are seeing my posts!
Thank you!
This was just a regular every day post like all of the other things I post on my page.
4 hours later, I posted this:
Now we are going to see how many people see this ‘promoted’ post since I have free Facebook credit to use!
*********IF YOU SEE THIS STATUS, PLEASE HIT THE LIKE BUTTON AND/OR LEAVE ME A LITTLE MESSAGE SAYING HI—– AT THE END OF THIS LITTLE TEST I WILL BE DRAWING A WINNER FOR A ♫ ♪♫ TRULY OUTRAGEOUS PRIZE ♫♪♫ THANK YOU FOR HELPING OUT!***********
I paid $15.00 to promote this ad over a 3 day period.
Here are the results.
For those unfamiliar with the terminology, here are the definitions:
Organic: The number of people who saw your Page post in newsfeed or ticker, or on your Page’s wall.
Viral: The number of people who saw your Page post in a story from a friend.
Paid: The number of people who saw your Page post in an Ad or Sponsored Story
My first post was liked by 47 people whereas the 2nd post was liked by 138 people who viewed it. Oh, and there were also several people who commented on my promoted post that they didn’t even see it until 2 days after it was posted!
After seeing the numbers from this little experiment, I feel that I am still better off just posting a regular message without promoting it because it is obviously still being seen by others and seeing the numbers for the promoted post just seems like a waste of money.
As a mom, we all have those moments that we cherish and know we will never forget. This past Mother’s Day, I had the pleasure of sharing my day with my youngest daughter, Baby Ellie, to celebrate her baptism. Instead of sleeping in and waking up to a lovely breakfast in bed as I have in the years past, I woke up bright and early to shower and get myself and every one else ready to head to church for 2 hours and then play hostess at a luncheon with family following the baptism. Although I did not get to enjoy Mother’s Day as I would normally do, I was glad to share it with my little Ellie, our miracle baby that we were told we lost.
My pregnancy with Ellie was not a pleasant one and at one point, we were told that I had miscarried. This news of course devastated us and we were beyond words happy to hear that the doctor was wrong and she was still growing inside of me. After that night, my life changed and it changed even more when she was born early at 36 weeks and faced a few issues before finally coming home.
Since Ellie was born, I have been doing my best to give back. I have been donating what I can, here and there to different charities and causes that all involve children. A new cause that I have grown fond of is the Johnson’s Baby Cares program which had partnered with another cause that we have supported for a few years, Save the Children.
Johnson’s Baby cares is donating Baby “Care Kits” stocked with baby essentials (lotions, washes, shampoos, diaper creams, etc) to Save the Children who will distribute them to families in disaster stricken situations. In addition to this great contribution, Johnson’s will donate an additional $50,000 to Save the Children when they achieve 500,000 views on their “Happy Mother’s Day, Mom — You’re Doing OK” video below.
Please take a moment to watch this great video.
You can learn more about Johnson’s Baby Cares by visiting them on Facebook.
Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Johnson & Johnson and received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
This year I have been trying to become a better me. Yes, it has been hard but I am slowly learning to deal with the changes and make sure that I am taking better care of myself.
So far in 2012, our family has given up fast food and we are still going strong. We have steered clear of those dangerous drive-thrus since 2011 and have no desire to return to them….EVER!
Another change I have made is to find a little more me time. Although it is not much and it doesn’t really happen until after all of the kids are asleep, I have started reading again every free chance I have.
I have also managed to cross a few other things of the list as well for not just me but the entire family. Last year, we enrolled in a new dental plan through Alex’s employer. The new plan offered us better dental insurance for just a little bit more money. Unfortunately right after we made the move and the plan became active all but one of the providers located near us dropped from the plan and the only provider that we could see was only at our local office 2 days a week with very short hours. Needless to say, we missed out on going to the dentist all of 2011 but we have all been taken care of so far this year!
Next on my to do list is to get into the eye doctor for a checkup and get some new glasses since I have been wearing the same pair for the last 2 years and desperately need a new pair.
After that I am going to work harder to keep losing weight and exercise more and continue to clean up my diet…..right now I have some bad addictions that I really need to kick to the curb.
What are you do to better yourself in 2012?
Starring the voice talents of Charlie Adler (The Super Hero Squad Show), Christine Cavanaugh (Rugrats), Gregg Berger (Transformers), Tim Curry (Clue) and James Belushi (Hoodwinked!), Aaahh!!! Real Monsters aired on Nickelodeon from 1994-2000 and returned in 2002 on the Nicktoons Network. In 2006, the show began airing on Nick Rewind. The show was nominated for a Daytime Emmy in Outstanding Achievement in Animation.
Aaahh!!! Real Monsters has always been a favorite for my older kids and they love introducing Alexander to new shows. Of course, he is now hooked on this one as well. Although he did just inform me that the cover creeped him out!
You can find Aaahh!!! Real Monsters in stores nationwide as a 2 DVD set. SRP is $19.93.
