Upcycling Auto Parts

Having a dad who enjoys working on cars, rebuilding engines and just tinkering, I have to admit, comes in quite handy.  I’ve never had to have a mechanic because I’ve always had my dad around to help out when a problem arises.

Now that Zack is on the verge of getting his license, he’s been spending more time working on my dad’s old pickup truck that will eventually be his when it is done.

Once upon a time, the truck they are working on looked like this.

I do hope that someday, soon, that it looks somewhat like that again.

The great thing about this project of their’s is that they are always on the hunt for replacement parts for it and also discarding parts they can no longer use.  One man’s junk auto part is another man’s treasure.

I love to spend a lot of time on Pinterest and lately, I’ve been checking out different projects we can do with some of the junk parts that my dad and Zack come up with and I’ve slowly been pinning them to a board of their own, saving them for when the time comes.

Hopefully, when they finish the truck and are ready to part with some spare parts I can work on a project.  Until that time comes, I’ll just keep pinning.

Be sure to follow me on Pinterest to keep up with the progress.

Celebrate the Holidays in Your Community

I know I’ve said it more than once that we absolutely love getting involved in community events and around here, the holidays are a great time to have some fun.

Thankfully, we live in an area that puts on a lot of different events and we are close enough to neighboring towns to be able to enjoy some of their events as well.

Finding events in your community is easy, just remember, Google is your friend.  I like to check local newspapers, newstations and websites for different things going on in our neighborhood but I also enjoy searching Google for random events too, you never know what you will find.

The holidays are a great time to get out and get involved in your community.  You can get involved by participating in an event, donating your time, helping someone in need and more.

We like to donate toys and other gifts during the holidays to those less fortunate and this year we are hoping to visit a local shelter and help as well.

If you like to get involved in your community, please let us know what you do.

Educate Yourself on RSV – Know the Symptoms

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for MedImmune. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Tis the season for the weather to change and here in Wisconsin it’s already quite chilly and we’ve had a few signs of snow.  This time of year is the worst time to get sick as well because there are all kinds of nasty infections out there.  As a mom, on thing I always worry about, is the kids getting R.S.V.

If you are not familiar with RSV, it is Respiratory Syncytial Virus, a common season virus that nearly all children will contract by the age of 2. It can cause typical mild to moderate cold-like symptoms in healthy, full-term babies but it is also the #1 reason babies are hospitalized during the first year of life.

We have dealt with RSV in the past, when Libby was an infant and it was one of the worst things ever. She went through a lot of breathing treatments and we all lost a lot of sleep.  I will never forget what it was like when she first became sick.  There was a lot of coughing and wheezing and you could tell she was physically uncomfortable and breathing was not easy for her.  After rushing her to the ER, getting her on oxygen, a dose of an antibiotic and sent home with a nebulizer to continue breathing treatments 3 times a day until she was better, it was not an enjoyable time.  I was a young mom, 21, and was scared.  Thankfully she pulled through and was on the mend quickly.

Since World Prematurity Day is coming up on November 17th and knowing that RSV infection is more likely to root in premature lungs, making premature children more susceptible, I want to make sure you are educated as well.

With Ellie (4 weeks 6 days premature) being our little preemie and having recently had croup in the last month, and add in our extremely cold weather here in Wisconsin, you can bet I will do everything in my power to protect her and the other kiddos from getting sick. When Ellie became sick last month and wsa coughing, or should I say barking, in her sleep  I was scared that we were headed down the path of RSV once again.  I was actually thankful when I took her into the ER that night that it was just croup.

Our little glow worm preemie.

Stick in a Box Subscription

* I received a promotional item in order to facilitate this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This post may contain affiliate links.*

Are you a beef jerky lover?  I happen to live in a house filled with people who would eat beef jerky around the clock if it was allowed.  I’m not sure how every one developed this love, right down to Ellie (I’m sure when Joey is able to try it he will love it too!).

No lie, if we buy a bag of beef jerky, it doesn’t last more than 20 minutes in this house.

We love beef jerky so much, we are always open to trying different kinds and thanks to the folks at Stick in a Box, we have found a few new favorites.

Before I go any further and share the contents of our box with you, let me tell you about Stick in a Box. Stick in a Box is a monthly subscription that delivers delicious beef jerky right to your door.  Not only will you get beef jerky, sometimes there are beef sticks too.

Our Stick in a Box was filled with quite a few delicious gourmet jerky treats and beef sticks.

Do Gameday Right with LG

It’s no secret that we are huge football fans.  Living in Wisconsin, it’s hard not to love football.  I can honestly say, I’ve always enjoyed the game, but I wasn’t always the die hard fan who followed teams and watched every game.  Since I met my husband, I can say things have changed….a lot.

These days football is something that not only brings us together as a family, but is also a way that my husband and I enjoy spending time together.  We are die hard Wisconsin Badger fans and do our best to watch every game.  We get game day ready with our fan gear, snacks and make sure we have great sound and picture.

(We encourage fandom at an early age. Yes, that really is my cousin, Mike Taylor former Wisconsin Badgers Linebacker)

Since we have a large family, it’s not feasible for us to attend games as we would like so we do our best to achieve a great game day setting at home.

To enjoy game day at home, it is important to have a TV that delivers a quality picture and now that LG has become the official corporate partner of NCAA® Football you can find everything you need for a great experience at Walmart.

LG TVs are great for watching your favorite NCAA team because they offer motion clarity index which means high speed action with minimal motion blur to keep up with your fast moving entertainment.   LG TVs also offer WiFi and great resolution with full HD 1080p to meet the highest standards for high definition.

I don’t know about you, but I’m a big fan of doing gameday the right way!

Imagine amazing picture qulity with infinite detail, Cinema 3D and easy access to limitless content.  That sounds like a great game day experience if you ask me!

I would love to find a new 55″ LG TV under our tree from Santa Claus this Christmas so we could get it all set up just in time for the NCAA bowls games!
