Ways to Save on Your Next Car

Buying a new or used car usually brings some type of financial burden, I know for our family it has always put a dent in the budget for a bit. Since we have purchased two used cars in the last year, we are already looking into ways to save on our next purchase.

There are multiple ways you can save money when shopping for a new or used car and we are now prepared when we are on the hunt next time.

Credit Card Points

Look into opening a credit card that offers you are rewards or points when you use it towards your next vehicle purchase.

Dealership Promotions

Visit dealership sites in your area and see if they are currently running any promotions. I recently learned that holiday weekends are often the best time to purchase a new or used car, so watch websites for those types of sales.

Special Programs

Check if the dealership you are working with offers discounts to any special programs like a military and veteran discount, National Association of Realtors Employee Program & Members Program, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Women Business Owners, National Federation of Independent Businesses, Snow and Ice Management Association, or any other programs they may offer like the programs listed here that Cerritos Dodge offers.

Trade In Vehicle

If you have a vehicle that you can trade in towards the purchase of your new vehicle, see how much the dealership will give you for it.

Featured Inventory

Check if the dealership has any featured inventory that they are selling at a reduced price. These types of discounts can save you thousands.

Coupons

Believe it or not, there are dealerships that have coupons available on their website that you can use towards a new car purchase. Most coupons are only for $500 or less off your vehicle purchase however that often will cover the title and licensing as well as part of the taxes.

Of course, in addition to these ideas, you can also sit down with your dealer and check for any manufacturer offers or dealership specials they may have as well.

Save Big with New Car Specials

As the years go by and families change and grow, other aspects of life change as well.  Before I met Alex and it was just me, Zack and Libby I had a little four door sedan that suited us just fine.  Now that there are 7 of us, a minivan or an SUV is a must have.

When we made our first big family vehicle purchase back in 2011, we were definitely not informed or in any way prepared to shop so we really just bought the first thing we could afford.  Needless to say, our next purchase was well researched and we made sure we had a vehicle that would work for our family as the kids continue to grow.

Now that we have purchased a new to us vehicle, more than once, we have a list that we use to help ensure we are getting what we need to fit our family.  Check out our tips for what to look for when buying a family car and keep it in mind for future purchases so you are prepared when the time comes to upgrade your vehicle!

When you are on the hunt for your new vehicle for your family, do yourself a favor and do some research first. Look into a variety of vehicles, sizes, and see what different features each has to offer and if certain upgrades are available. These days, most car dealerships, like Federico Chrysler Dodge, have their current inventory posted online, allowing you to shop before heading to the dealership.

When you look online, you can compare prices at different dealerships and Kelley Blue Book, see all the features each has to offer, and make a list of vehicles you want to go test drive.

Federico Chrysler Dodge also has some great new car specials happening right now, don’t miss out!

In the end, if you do your research and are prepared in your hunt, you will find the perfect vehicle for your family.

Running Out Of Space

Back when we bought our first minivan, we had 3 kids. It was great to have all of the extra space and was even better when we discovered we were expecting Ellie. Since getting the minivan we’ve had lots of space to pack everyone up and drive all over, visit family, go see things and have.

When we were suprised with Joey, we had to move things around and now, our van…it’s full.  There is nowhere for an extra person to sit. There is barely any room in the 3rd row for Zack, Alexander and Libby.

Right now they sit shoulder to shoulder and Alexander is in a booster seat between them so it’s a really tight, uncomfortable squeeze.

After purchasing our current van in November, we were suprised to discover (just a few weeks later) that our family would be growing (in the form of a grandchild) and that if needed, we wouldn’t have the room to transport her. So, here I am again, wondering if we will need to upgrade to a bigger vehicle soon.

Here I am, once again, looking at vehicles online at different Dodge dealerships, to see what is available out there. I’ve had a minivan for the last 8 years so I need to research large SUVs and see what can accomodate our family.

So, here we go again, who knows, maybe I will be car shopping again soon!
