Why I am Thankful for my Samsung Galaxy SIII from Verizon

As you all know, we recently moved into our new home.  Things have been crazy around here.  It took us almost a week to move everything out of our rental home and into our new forever home.

On our 3rd day in our new home, we had an appointment to have cable installed.

Yes, we were finally going to have TV to keep the 4 year old Alexander entertained while we continued to move and unpack the house.  Little did I know that when I placed the order for cable that I was misinformed and that the Basic cable package we had decided to have installed only contained 13 channels!

AHHHHH!!!

Only having 13 channels meant that we lacked Nickelodeon, Disney, the Cartoon Network….you know, all those channels that little 4 year old boys love!

Thanks to my Samsung Galaxy SIII and my Netflix account, my dear sweet little Alexander was able to enjoy his favorite shows by watching them right on my phone!

I love that there is a Netflix app (downloadable for FREE in the Android Market Playstore) and it is great how well the picture quality is on the phone.  It also really helps that the Verizon network is super fast and the video isn’t always buffering as it does on my Galaxy SIII on another network.

Thank you Verizon, Samsung and Netflix for allowing me to provide my son with his beloved Power Rangers and Transformers to keep him entertained during our hectic move!

Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Midwest Savvy Moms program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

More Ways to Shop & Save

Now that we are moved into our new home, I have been working hard to get things unpacked and everyone settled in before school starts in September.  My goal is to have most of our stuff unpacked by the end of this coming weekend.

As we approach the new school year, I am busy gathering the necessary supplies that each of them needs for their daily classes in addition to improving things at home to make sure that they will be prepared for whatever is thrown at them throughout the year.

To make sure that we get the most bang for our buck, I have been combing the ads carefully in addition to ordering some items online and taking advantage of some great Online Coupons.

One thing Alex and I have seriously been considering doing is setting up an area for the kids to work in the basement which we are currently using as an office. This winter, the basement will become a construction zone as we begin to finish the basement into a laundry/storage area and a rec room and office. Both Zack and Libby have a desk in their new rooms and also have their own netbooks, but I think I would like them to have a desktop to work on as well so they can work on stuff while I am busy working in the ‘office’.

Since we have been thinking about setting up a work station for the kids, I have been looking at and comparing different PC’s to find one that will fit their needs. During my research, I have found some Lenovo coupons in addition to some others that have really been aiding in my search to purchase a machine since I hate to pay full price and am always looking to score a great deal and save!

Here’s hoping I can find something to fit their needs soon and get something setup for them since school is less than a month away!

Do your children have a separate work space and computer for school work?

Always Have a Backup Plan!

During our recent move, I managed to misplace a few items that I will need in the next few months.  You know, various items such as important paperwork that the kids will need for school, tax records, birth certificates, etc.

Although I misplaced the hard copies of these items, I am happy that I always make a digital copy of important information and that not only do I save it to my computer, but I always make sure to use my online backup program as well.

After reading a variety of reviews of online backup programs, I am happy that my internet service provider includes one for free with our service.  Having this type of program always ensures that I will not lose anything important!

Do you keep digital copies of your important documents?

Goodbye E.A.R.L!

It’s official….after just over 5 years, we have said goodbye and moved from the place that kept a roof over our heads and have finally escaped the E.A.R.L.  Just after midnight, on the morning of August 5th, Alex, the kids and I met my parents at our new home to finally show it to the kids.

Since we moved, we have been busy making the house beautiful.  The first night we came in, we immediately pulled out the filthy white carpet to find this:

Beautiful hardwood floors under arpet

After some serious TLC of removing staples and tack strip, sweeping, vacuuming, AND oiling, the final result was wonderful!

Once we were finished with the living room floor, we moved on to removing carpet in the hallways and in Libby’s bedroom. Under one hallway we found a pretty decent 1970’s poured floor. In the other hallway, we uncovered peel and stick tile on top of another 1970’s poured floor. After removing the tiles, adhesive and years of dirt, we ended up with a pretty decent floor that will suffice until we lay the new floor.

Now that those few projects are done, we are busy unpacking the rest of the house and getting settled in before the next project begins.
The next project is taking our 1973 kitchen that currently looks like this (no, that is not our stuff, that is the previous owners).

And we are turning it into this!

It is going to look beautiful and I cannot wait to get it done and share pictures! I will be blogging through the whole process of demoing the current kitchen and installing the new one!
Until then, I have A LOT of unpacking to do! The cabinets have been ordered and now we just wait.

Home Depot Kids Workshop

On August 4th, before we began the big move into our new home, we decided to venture out to our local Home Depot and have the kids participate in The Lorax Kids Workshop.  This was our first time participating in one of the workshops for kids at Home Depot and I am really glad that we went.  Zack, Libby and Alexander all had the chance to make a bulletin board and paint it.

The kids are already looking forward to attending the September workshop so they can make their paper football goal posts just in time for Packer season!

The Lorax is now available on Blu-ray and DVD.
