7 Items to Check Off Your Christmas To-Do List – In July

I know, it’s the middle of summer and you probably hate me for even saying this, but Christmas is less than 6 months away! Now is the time to start prepping for the holiday so you don’t find yourself scrambling at the last minute.

The question is, which items on the list do you tackle first? For us, the one thing that is always hard to do is capture the perfect family photo or just pictures of the kids to feature on our holiday card, after that, I always put the rest off….but not this year!

This year, we have come up with 8 items for you to check off your Christmas To-Do list – in July!

1. Create Christmas Wish Lists

One thing I despise more than anything is getting a list from my kids or other family member super close to Christmas. I love to shop year round and you never know when you will stumble upon a great sale for the perfect gift your family member wants. Be sure to create your list and have you kids create their lists too. Getting them done early means they will be ready and waiting the minute someone asks for them.

2. Family Pictures

If you are planning on sending out a photo card, newsletter or want to give photos of the family or just the kids as a gift, schedule your photo session ASAP! Photographers book up more and more the closer we get to the holidays and the sooner you get yours done, the sooner your photographer can get them edited and back to you in time for the holidays.

3. Get Some Christmas Card Ideas Together

4. Get Started on Homemade Gifts

If you plan on gifting any items that are homemade such as keepsake gifts from the kids, blankets, or anything that takes a lot of time to create, get you projects started now. A lot of stores are already stocked with holiday crafts and sales making it a great time to take advantage of the prices and the extra time before the holidays hit.

5. Clean Out The Kids Rooms

When it comes to Christmas and kids, it usually means more new clothes and more new toys. Start working on cleaning out all of the clothes that don’t fit anymore or toys they have outgrown or just don’t enjoy and find them a new home with a friend or family member or donate them to a local charity.

6. Take Advantage of Summer Sales

A lot of stores start putting out small Christmas displays in July to bring in some extra sales in the summer which makes it the perfect time to shop for some new holiday decor if you need it. Also, watch for stock up sales for things like bath and kitchen towels, dishrags, and other household goods that could make great gifts for friends and family.

7. Find Time in Your Winter Schedule To Give Back

The holidays are a great time to give back to your community and a lot of people wait until the last minute to sign up to volunteer their time. Take advantage of the summer and make a few phone calls to local charities or schools and find out what events they have going on during the holidays that you are your family may be able to help with a commit to it now and get it on your calendar.

With just completing these tasks, you will be checking off items on your Christmas to-do list and be prepared for the holidays instead of waiting until the last minute.

The Ultimate Funny Holiday Gift Guide

The holiday season is packed full of gift-giving, and sometimes it can be hard to find the perfect present for everyone on your list. If you’re at a loss for what to put under the tree, aim for a gift that tickles their funny bone! A silly surprise is always a welcomed treat, and your fun selection will surely be the talk of Christmas morning. Take a look at some of the best funny holiday gifts below.

Cards Against Humanity Game

Take game night up a notch with this hilarious and completely inappropriate card game designed for adults. It’s basically a grown-up version of Apples to Apples—a question is asked, and the goal is lay down the funniest card in response. Cards Against Humanity is the perfect gift for anyone with a dark sense of humor and a sharp mind.

Ugly Christmas Sweater

What could be better than the gift of scratchy, ugly, Christmas-themed apparel? Tipsy Elves has a huge assortment of women’s and men’s ugly Christmas sweaters that are bound to be first-place winners at any holiday party competition. From flexing reindeers to naughty Santa’s, there’s a hilarious and hideous present just waiting to be gifted to the jokester in your life.

Sequined Photo-Reveal Pillow

Typically, pillows are a fun bedding accessory to cuddle up with on a cold night. So why not ruin that lovely routine with a terrifying Nicholas Cage sequin reveal pillow? What looks like an ordinary sparkly pillow hides the face of Hollywood’s favorite B-list actor. Simply swipe your hand over the sequins to reveal the horror that lies beneath! For anyone who’s always wanted to combine their love of interior décor and National Treasure, this is the Holy Grail of Christmas presents.

Toilet Coffee Mug

We all know that one person who can’t form multi-syllable words until they’ve had their morning cup of Joe. Why not make their life a little more annoying with a ridiculous toilet coffee mug from Big Mouth Inc? Their delicious brown coffee will soon take on another meaning as they sip a hot beverage from the bowl. This gift is also ideal for anyone with a major potty mouth!

Bob Ross Chia Pet

This gift is a no-brainer for all the artsy friends in your life. Bring “The Joy of Painting” host into their home with this living Chia seed Bob Ross bust. They’ll love watching his curly hair grow as the seeds spring into life. It’s almost as if you can hear his soothing voice talking about happy little trees and puffy clouds as he creates 30-minute masterpieces. And if your friend typically has a black thumb, perhaps this easy-maintenance plant will give them the confidence to take their indoor gardening skills to new heights!

The Hungover Cookbook

Lend a helping hand to the friend who can never seem to properly recover from a heavy night of drinking. The Hungover Cookbook by Milton Crawford walks through the different types of hangovers and delicious cures for all of them. From breakfast burritos to ice cream smoothies, every page is filled with mouth-watering recipes. Not to mention, there’s plenty of advice and jokes in there to motivate your drinking buddy to clean up their act before their next big bender.

Tortilla Baby Swaddle Wrap

For the new parents in your life, grab this hilarious (and tasty-looking) tortilla swaddle wrap from Uncommon Goods! Their little bundle of joy will look like a yummy burrito as they sleep peacefully in their crib. After all, parents are always saying stuff like “Oh you’re just so cute I could eat!” Bring those strange words to life by giving parents the chance to confuse their baby with a giant Mexican meal.

Campfire Fishing Rod

What do you get when you combine two things that definitely don’t go together? The perfect gag gift! The campfire fishing rod mashes together the art of fishing and toasting s’mores in one delightfully strange present. Get this for the friend who tries to be outdoorsy but is too afraid of snakes to ever pitch a tent outside. Ideal for backyard BBQs or summer bonfires, this contraption will be a hit at any party with an open flame.

Ditch the sweet sentiments this season and grab a funny gift to make your loved one chuckle come Christmas morning. No matter what their sense of humor may be, there’s guaranteed to be something on this list that will make them smile.

Popsicle Stick Snowman Christmas Ornament

Christmas is upon us and I am itching to put up our  Christmas tree.  One thing I have always enjoyed about Christmas is decorating our tree with homemade ornaments that the kids have crafted over the years as well as some I made when I was a kid. We have a few ornaments that we received as gifts as well, along with the ones that are personalized.

Every year, we spend time making ornaments and paper chains for our tree as well as ornaments and some cards to give to family members, friends, and other members of our community.

One of the new ornaments we made last year are popsicle stick snowmen and they might just be my new favorite ornaments.

Making these ornaments is really easy to do.  To make yours, you will need:

-10 popsicle sticks
Hot Glue Gun
Craft eyes
Pipe cleaners
-Black & white paint and paint brushes
Black marker
Fishing line

To get started, lay our 8 popsicle sticks and line them up like a fence.

Next, using your hot glue gun, put some glue on the back of another popsicle stick starting about 1/2 an inch from one end and leaving half an inch on the other end.

Once you have the glue on your popsicle stick, lay it across your fence of popsicle sticks to form the brim of your snowman’s hat and to secure the ‘fence’ as seen below.

Repeat the previous step and add the popsicle stick to the back side so it lines up with the front to add extra support to your snow man.

After your snowman is glued together and try, it is time to paint.

First you paint the area below the hat white for his face and then the rest black for his hat.

When you are done painting, set aside and let the paint try. After the paint has dried, it is time to glue on your eyes, pipe cleaner nose and a pipe cleaner on the brim of the hat.  After everything is glued on you can draw your snowman’s face on with your black marker.

Once your craft is all dry, flip it over, add a dot of glue and and stick some fishing line into it to add a hanger for your ornament.  When it is all done, add it to your tree and you have a beautiful new ornmanent.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Happy crafting!

My kids, they are just like me, crazy about Christmas. As soon as Halloween is over, we are all geared up for the holiday season. While some families do put their trees up on November 1st, we do wait until after Thanksgiving, but that doesn’t stop me from having some holiday fun with the kids. We love to work on holiday crafts, make reindeer food, and find free coloring pages to enjoy.

This year, thanks to the folks behind  The North Pole Kids’ Club®, our kids are set with everything they need to be certified Santa Helpers!

An Official Elf Kit is what every Santa’s helper gets and it contains, an authentic elf hat, enclosed in the kit. It’s so fleece-y soft that kids have been known to wear it to bed! Choose green or pink for your favorite little elf when placing an order.

Becoming a certified Santa’s helper comes with cool benefits like an official membership card to the North Pole Kids’ Club. Children discover they can quickly earn their Elf Certificate, ready for hanging! Inside the kit is an extra special surprise – Santa’s Magic Key tied with a red ribbon! This is the real way he gets inside so many houses on December 24! Kids are told to hang the key on their front door on Christmas Eve and Santa uses it to make his delivery.

Each kit has an illustrated 64-page handbook and a 16-page activity book that spells out everything in age-appropriate storytelling. Older siblings are eager to help younger ones do festive activities or read aloud the story of Finley the Elf, keeping the magic alive another holiday season! This has been a great activity for my kids to enjoy together and Alexander really enjoys reading to his younger siblings.
