Now that The Alex is finishing up school and will have more free time, we have decided it is time that he get a place of his own on the internet. He will always be referred to as The Alex on my site but we have given him an identity of his own on his new site. You can find him over at The Sci-Fi Daddy.
You will still see posts from The Alex on this site as well and some posts might end up on both sites but we decided he needed a place to put his random thoughts on all of his geeky and nerdy things like books, video games…..you know all the sci-fi and fantasy stuff.
Who knows, he may even dabble in beer…..here’s looking at you Guiness Black Lager!
So, check him out and watch for some awesome book and game reviews along with different gaming tips, cheats and who knows what else. It’s his little corner of the world!
Linda Lael Miller’s A Lawman’s Christmas, in stores this month, is set in the winter of 1914 featuring the popular McKettricks of Texas’ Clay McKettrick who is looking to settle down and raise a family on a ranch of his own.
For me, this book wasn’t really my cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong, it is a good book just not what I expected.
Here is a brief synopsis of the book:
The sudden death of the town marshal leaves Blue River, Texas, without a lawman…and twenty-five-year-old Dara Rose Nolan without a husband. As winter approaches and her meager seamstress income dwindles, she has three options. Yet she won’t give up her two young daughters, refuses to join the fallen women of the Bitter Gulch Saloon and can’t fathom condemning herself to another loveless marriage. Unfortunately she must decide—soon—because there’s a new marshal in town, and she’s living under his roof.
With the heart of a cowboy, Clay McKettrick plans to start a ranch and finally settle down. He isn’t interested in uprooting Dara Rose and her children, but he is interested in giving her protection, friendship—and passion. And when they say “I do” to a marriage of convenience, the temporary lawman’s Christmas wish is to make Dara Rose his permanent wife….
Although I didn’t care for the book that much, I did feel that each of the characters were developed quite well and each had an interesting story to tell.
For those who enjoy the Western romance type of book, I would recommend this for you!!

Our family loves to play the game Apples to Apples. We have both the Apples to Apples Jr. and the original in our home. We were first introduced to this game at a family game night when the 2 older kids were in elementary school.
Now the news has hit that Mattel’s Apples to Apples game is going to get connected with digital, social and mobile play this winter!!
This holiday season, Apples to Apples™ will delight players and bring families together using PlayStation Network for PlayStation®3and Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360®, just before expanding onto Facebook and mobile devices. The digital versions of Apples to Apples™ will feature social gaming connectivity capabilities, allowing family and friends to share or play anytime, anywhere – in the same room or on opposite sides of the world!
I’m not sure which will be more addictive but I’m pretty sure I will be playing A LOT of Apples to Apples on Facebook!
On Xbox LIVE Arcade for Xbox 360and PlayStation Network for PS®3the game will feature single-player, local and online modes for up to six players. Apples to Apples™ also comes packed with all-new customizable play modes, vibrant backgrounds, and Golden Apple cards, which can be used to change the rules in fun new ways. Participants can choose between 16 animated avatars such as Pirate Apple, Cowboy Apple and Ballerina Apple. Players will also be able to post game results and boast of their clever comparisons on Facebook to earn additional rewards.
Upcoming downloadable content for the console versions will include new Golden Apple cards, partybackgrounds, and new playable apples. More than 1,000 additional cards are also bundled into the content packs to keep gameplay fresh and exciting.
Later this winter, Apples to Apples™ fans will be able to enjoy the classic card game experience on Facebook and mobile devices. Players will be able to simply jump into existing games within the growing Apples toApples™ community, or create their own custom experience for their friends and favorite players. Innovative cross-platform play means the experience is as mobile as it is social. Facebook users will be free to challenge their friends using their smartphones, makingApples to Apples™a truly connected digital experience. In Facebook and mobile application gameplay, participants will earn Apple Coins, Apple Cash and Apple Achievements, which unlock additional avatars, playing cards and themed backgrounds.
Apples to Apples™ is scheduled for release this winter on Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360 (800 Microsoft Points), PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3 ($9.99 USD), Facebook and mobile devices.
