Febreze® Home Collection Wooden Wick Candle

Want your house to smell like there is a fire burning in your non-existent fireplace and you just pulled fresh gingerbread cookies out of the oven without actually having done either?

I have the solution!
Meet the Gingersnap Vanilla Wooden Wick Candle from the Febreze®
Home Collection!

This candle is addicting.

Thank goodness it burns for up to 80 hours!

The Wooden Wick Candles are available in a variety of scents.  The Gingersnap Vanilla is seasonal along with Yumberry Sangria and Anjou Pear Sauce which both sound like they would smell delish too!

Other available scents are Green Tea Citrus, Pomegranate Mango, Cranberry Pear, Orange Honeycomb, Rosewood Plum, and Willow Blossom.

I am a huge fan of candles but I have never found anything like this and can tell you that I will continue to fill our home with wooden wick candles because I love that it smells like there is a fire burning and since we have no fireplace, this just does the trick for me!

Now I just have to go snatch up a few more of the gingersnap vanilla scent before they disappear from the stores!

Our First Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving, the Alex and I are doing something we have never done. We are preparing our own Thanksgiving dinner for our little family of 5 to enjoy together.

Since my in-laws are off on a Trans-Atlantic cruise for the next 3 weeks, we celebrated Thanksgiving early with them and since they always get us on Thanksgiving and my parents get us the day after, we have found ourselves with the opportunity to do something on our own.

The plan is to make a fabulous meal while we watch the Green Bay Packers kick some Detroit Lion butt and just enjoy the family time together.

On the menu is a massive 22 pound turkey ( I know, 22lbs for 5 people—can we say major leftovers?!!! The Alex was in charge of purchasing the turkey and took advantage of the fact that we got it for $0.44 a pound thanks to our store savings card!) We are going to stuff the turkey with aromatics and roast it while basting and brushing it with butter because really, everything is better with butter!!!

We will also be making cornbread stuffing that involves bacon (YUM!), bacon-cheddar mashed potatoes, baked macaroni and cheese, a broccoli casserole, corn, sweet potatoes, fresh rolls, cranberries and of course homemade gravy!! Plus there will be both pumpkin and apple pie for dessert!

I cannot wait to start cooking!!!

We are super excited to have the opportunity to do this and cannot wait to start cooking! I will be posting pictures and recipes after the holiday so you can see how everything went!

This will be the first time either of us has ever cooked a turkey!!

Spy Kids: All The Time In The World on Blu-ray and DVD 11/22/11

It’s hard to believe the the action-packed family film franchise, Spy Kids, is releasing it’s 4 film. I remember sitting down with Zack and the Libby to watch the first one back in 2001. Since the first film made its debut, we have seen them all.

Spy Kids: All The Time In The World features a star filled cast including Jessica Alba, Joel McHale, Ricky Gervais, Jeremy Piven, Danny Trejo, Rowan Blanchard, and newcomer Mason Cook along with long-standing cast members Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara who have both appeared in all of the Spy Kids films.

In Spy Kids: All The Time In Th World, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all: married to a famous spy-hunting television reporter (Joel McHale), with a new baby and intelligent twin step kids, Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook). When the maniacal Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) disrupts her domestic bliss—threatening to take over the planet—Marissa comes out of retirement as a top secret agent. With Armageddon quickly approaching, Rebecca and Cecil are thrust into action! With a little help from some familiar Spy Kids friends, Carmen (Alexa Vega), Juni (Daryl Sabara), their faithful dog Argonaut (Ricky Gervais) and some mind-blowing gadgets, they just may be able to save the world!

The SPY KIDS: ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD Blu-ray™ and DVD bonus features include an
interview with director Robert Rodriguez; a “Spy Kids Passing the Torch” featurette; a “Spy Gadgets”
clip; deleted scenes; and more! .

We just watched this film for the 2nd time today and the little dude is seriously hooked. He is convinced that he is a Spy Kid!

This was definitely another film from the Spy Kids franchise that did not disappoint!

Here is a quick trailer of the film!

Here are some great downloadable activities and recipes for you to have a great Spy Kids family movie night!

Create Your Family’s Time Capsule

TIME CAPSULE CREATION TIPS
   Choose a Milestone
The creation of a Time Capsule is much more fun when there’s something to celebrate! Select a special day for the ‘burial’ of your Time Capsule. Maybe it’s a milestone birthday, holiday, or a special date on the school-year calendar. The more memorable the event, the easier it is to track the passage of time.
     Collect Your Artifacts
Deciding what items to store in your Time Capsule can be tricky. Remember, the items you choose will be unavailable for day-to-day use! Good options include: a school assignment that you are exceptionally proud of; a stuffed animal or toy that you have recently out-grown, but still holds special meaning; a souvenir from a favorite trip like a keychain or magnet.
     Create an Inventory List
You’ll want to not only list the items you are including in your Time Capsule, but why you have included them. What makes each item special, and how does it represent your accomplishments, preferences, or interests at the time. This can be a couple of sentences, or even a short journal entry for a fun reflection upon retrieval of your Time Capsule!
     Contain Your Items
Your artifacts and memorabilia should be protected in an appropriate container. Choose something that can preserve against insect invasion and animal exploration. Often, a shoebox, coffee can, or reusable plastic container will do the trick. Just be sure seal with  strong tape around the lid to ensure maximum security!
     Clock Your Timeline
It is recommended that the Time Capsule stay sealed for at least one full year from the date of ‘burial.’ However, the more time that you can let pass, the more fun a trip down memory lane can be when you finally open your capsule. Just don’t forget about it – mark  a calendar with your unearthing date!
     Conceal Your Capsule
Traditionally, Time Capsules are buried in the ground outside. If that option isn’t available, parents are often good at finding some secret or out-of-the-way spots for your Time Capsule to live where it won’t be seen or disturbed until the unearthing date.                                Wherever you decide to put it, make sure at least 2 people know where it is located so it is not lost.
     Countdown and Retrieve
Make an event out of opening your Time Capsule! Prepare a special meal with your family, or invite some friends over to commemorate the time that has passed. Sharing your Time Capsule’s items and inventory is a fun way to celebrate your growth in life.

Geek Gift Set Review & #Giveaway – Ends 12/05/11

I’m pretty sure that I have mentioned once or twice that the Alex is a bit of a geek.  For me, that is awesome because I consider myself a geek as well and through our love of geeky things, we managed to find each other!

When shopping for gifts for him, I always like to find quirky, humorous gifts that I know will definitely make him laugh.  Yes, we are that couple.

One year I got him an entire bundle of gifts that were completely Superman themed.  Another year, I fulfilled his childhood dream of being a Ghostbuster for Halloween!

Yes, we are geeky.

Now I rely on awesome online sites to give me new ideas.

One of my new favorite sites is UncommonGoods.com because they have a little something for everyone.  I’ve even found quite a few things I am planning on ordering for Baby Ellie.

Uncommon Goods offers a large line of Gifts for Geeks.  Of these, I have had the pleasure of checking out the Evolution Erasers, Eye Glasses Holder and the Clear Staple-Less Staplers.

Seriously, I don’t know which of these Geek Gifts I like more!  The Eye-Glasses Holder is a very, VERY useful tool in our home since the Alex is notorious for setting his glasses on the back of the couch or bedside table only to knock them down and have to try to find them.  This addition has given his glasses a new home and the little Alexander thinks it’s pretty cool too!

And really, who doesn’t need an eraser?  I know I always like to have them on hand, especially when I have kids who are always erasing mistakes.  This way they can erase and error and get a lesson in evolution at the same time.

Also, I can’t say anything negative about the Clear-Staple-less Stapler because I am all for a product that is eco-friendly and uses the paper to staple itself together eliminating the need for those pesky metal staples that get caught in everything!

So, if you’re looking for some cool gifts for guys on your shopping list, I recommend Uncommon Goods as a great place to check out!

Or better yet, you can enter our giveaway for a Geek Gift Set that includes all of the items pictured here, a retail value of $50!

West Side Story: 50th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray

I love the movie West Side Story. I fell in love with this tale when I saw the play at a local theater in middle school. I have now seen it enough times to be able to quote it word for word and sing every song!

West Side Story won 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Original Score, the film took home more awards than any other movie-musical in the history of cinema. This monumental production not only featured the timeless lyrics from master American composer Stephen Sondheim, but a brilliant score from Leonard Bernstein, and beautiful direction from Robert Wise.

This anniversary edition of the film boasts hundreds of hours of restoration, new 7.1 digital audio, and a collection of bonus features spotlighting the harmonious songs and elaborate dances of the original film and I enjoyed every last minute of it!!

For those not familiar with the film, it’s an ageless story of Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of gang warfare in 1950’s New York. A love affair is fated for tragedy amidst the vicious rivalry between two street gangs – the Jets and the Sharks. When Jets member Tony (Richard Beymer, The Longest Day) falls for Maria (Natalie Wood, Splendor in the Grass), the sister of the Sharks leader, it’s more than these two warring gangs can handle. As mounting tensions rise, a battle to the death ensues and innocent blood is shed in a heartbreaking finale.

And don’t even get me started on the music!
Oh my, I love it all.
If you watch Glee, I’m sure you know what I am talking about.
The music sucks you in!
Here is one of my favorite songs from the film!
