Wet and Wild Fun at Wilderness Resort

Recently, Alex and I packed up the kids and headed down to Wisconsin Dells for a little mini-vacation, our destination, Wilderness Resort for some wet and wild water park fun!

Not only was this our first trip to the Wilderness Resort, it was also our first trip as a family to Wisconsin Dells. I have been to the Dells before but it was over 20 years ago, for a day trip and I don’t remember a thing about it. So of course, this trip was going to be a totally new experience for all of us.

Now, if you’ve never been to Wisconsin Dells, I will be honest with you, I was overwhelmed driving into town. There was just so much to look at and so many things we wanted to find the time and check out.

We arrived at Wilderness Resort just in time for check-in and pulled up to the New Frontier Lobby and I went inside to get us all checked in for the weekend. At check-in I was greeted by a nice young man named Tomás who educated me on everything I needed to know about the resort, which slides and water parks were his favorite and pretty much where I could find everything and anything we would need. He was AWESOME and it was great to be welcomed by someone who clearly enjoys his job!

Places to Stay

The Wilderness Resort has a variety of options when it comes to finding a place to stay. They have everything from your standard room to cabins, condos and villas in varying sizes.

Once we were checked in we made our way to a parking spot, unloaded the van and checked into our room. Our room was a Double Suite Wet Bar.

The room was a perfect fit for us and offered us 425 square feet of space with a max occupancy of 7 that included two queen-size beds and a sofa sleeper with a semi-privacy wall between, a wet bar, two TV’s, microwave, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, Wi-Fi and more. We also had an upper-level pool view so we could watch others enjoying the water park.

The wet bar was a great addition to the room for us because we used it as a place to prep meals (we brought a lot of basic food items with us), feed the kids and take care of the dirty dishes.

*Children ages 2 & under stay FREE and do not need to be included in the number of registered guests.

Dining at Wilderness Resort

If you plan on dining while you are at the resort, I suggest you check out the restaurants and what they have to offer before your trip, this way you have an idea of what to expect. Wilderness has a variety of restaurants both inside the resort as well as some that are detached from the resort but still on site including Italian, a steak house and a burger joint to name a few.

Prior to our trip, we had decided we would dine at the Wild Canyon Cafe, where kids eats free, on our first night and enjoy their Friday Night Fish Fry buffet style.

Dinner was delicious and I ate more cod then any one person should! The kids also enjoyed their meals but I think they enjoyed their desserts from the buffet and their chocolate milk even more. I was also very pleased with our service at Wild Canyon Cafe and we couldn’t have asked for a better server! (Thanks Duane!)

In addition to the dining, there are also great places to grab a drink, like Survivors Bar & Grill or The Thirsty Buffalo Saloon.

The Water Parks

Now lets face it, if you are staying at the Wilderness Resort, the chances are pretty good that the reason you are there is to enjoy their water parks.

With eight AMAZING indoor and outdoor water parks – all EXCLUSIVELY for the use of Wilderness guests, you can bet you will have a wet and wild time!

Since we were hanging with the little kids for the weekend, we didn’t get to partake in the big water slide action but we had just as much fun hitting up the areas for the younger crowd.

Our first stop was the Wild WaterDome, a 70,000 square foot indoor water park overflowing with fun! The Wild WaterDome is home to the Great Wave (America’s largest indoor wave pool!) the Dueling Mammoths family raft rides, and Mini Mammoths Cove play area!

The kids love slides, regardless of their size and it was a constant up the steps and down the slide night for them.

We also hit up the New Frontier Outdoor Water Park where Alexander took advantage of the big slides while Joey and Ellie hung out in the kiddie pool splashing and sliding.

Joey couldn’t get enough of either of the slides in the kiddie area and I really think this was his favorite thing about the entire trip to the park!

The kids really had a lot of fun at the New Frontier Outdoor Water Park and I’m glad we went down to check it out. I also really liked this park because they had an inground pool so we could take the kids in and practice their swimming or just relax. (This is the park we could see from the balcony in our room).

In addition to these parks, there are 6 more and plenty for everyone, of all ages to enjoy. I wish we would have had more time to check out all of the water parks. I guess this just means we need to go back again!

More to Do!

If 8 water parks and a variety of restaurants isn’t enough to keep you entertained then you will be happy to know that Wilderness Resort is also the home to a variety of attractions, including 4 different arcades, lazer tag, go-karts, zip-lining, sky ropes, a 4 story play park, mini golf and more! For those who are looking for some quiet time you can hit the golf course or the spa!

Take Home Some Souvenirs

Be sure to check out one of the many shops at Wilderness Resort and bring home a little something to remember your trip! With everything from stuffed animals, toys and clothing, you will definitely find the perfect item for you!

A is for Appendectomy

Yes, you’re reading that correctly. This week has definitely been an interesting one for our family.

Tuesday afternoon, Zack wasn’t feeling well and began to have some pain in his stomach but not in one general area. Since he was in a lot of pain, I thought I would have him checked out just to be safe. I scheduled him for a 5pm appointment at our hospital for their extended care hours since our family doctor’s office was closed.

We arrived at the hospital and the doctor checked him out and thought that based on the fact that all he had to drink all day was a bottle of Mountain Dew and hadn’t really had much to eat that he could be dehydrated and since he had vomited shortly after arriving that it was best to pump him full of fluids and give him some anti-nausea meds.

After 2 bags of fluids, a dose of anti-nausea meds and some Toradol for the pain, Zack was acting much more like himself 4.5 hours later. (A surprise visit from his girlfriend may have helped a little).

We talked with the doctor and with the pain subsiding, the vomiting having stopped, his blood work being clear and no sign of a fever that it was okay to pack up and head home.

Well, I’m not telling you that we shouldn’t have left. We should have stayed put at the hospital and waited for the pain meds to stop working because 2 hours later, we were back in the ER having another IV put in, more blood drawn and a CT to discover that Zack had appendicitis and would need an appendectomy.

You would think that after watching him be in pain and go through not 1 but 2 hip surgeries that this would have been a piece of cake for me.

It wasn’t.

Zack was in so much more pain this time around and not even a dose of morphine helped.

By 330am we were moving him up to the surgical floor and getting him ready while I signed and gave consent for the procedure and by 4am he was in the operating room and Alex, my mom and I were in the waiting room. He was out of surgery shortly before 5am and everything went off without any problems.

Mom and I went down to his room on the pediatrics floor to wait for him and Alex made his way home to take care of the rest of the gang.

Zack made it out of recovery and back to the room around 630am and was still pretty out of it and just ready to rest. He crashed, my mom left and went to work and I went to sleep.

Since he was doing so well and was a great patient, he was discharged shortly after noon and we got him home and in bed to rest which is where he has spent most of his time since.

He’s been recovering pretty well, is moving around more on his own and is happy the worst of the pain is gone and can’t wait to be fully healed. He’s also not real thrilled that he had to take off 3 days of work and has restrictions when he goes back but I’m sure he’ll survive.

I have a follow-up appointment with the surgeon scheduled for Tuesday afternoon and hope he’ll be my fully functional Zack again in no time!

Everything Is #Saucesome with Ragú ® + Recipe

Sitting down for dinner as a family of 7 is not something that happens a lot around here. There are many nights when someone is missing and our family mealtime isn’t quite complete. When we do have the chance to enjoy a meal together we do whatever it takes to make it great!

Over the weekend, we actually had the chance to sit down together a have a meal as a family and it was the best!

My crazy clan waiting for dinner.

We love to put together meals that everyone enjoys but also meals that don’t require a lot of prep work or a lot of dirty dishes.  Our meal for this family dinner was our take on the No-Boiling Lasagna recipe from Ragú®. Not only was dinner saucesome but being with all of my kids and my husband made it even saucesome-ier!

Ragú® is recognizing and celebrating everything that makes family mealtime Saucesome. From unique recipes to silly moments to crazy weeknights…it’s all Saucesome with the delicious help of Ragú® Sauce!

Our Take on a Ragú® Classic Recipe

Often time we stumble upon recipes that we know that everyone will enjoy but I’m always looking for a way to change them up and sneak protein and veggies in so I know the kids are getting everything they need.  We took the Ragú® no-boiling lasagna recipe and made it our own by adding 93% lean beef and spinach to it. The kids, actually all of us, couldn’t get enough of it. It was absolutely delicious! Ragú® Old World Style Traditional Sauce has a delicious taste your whole family will love

Make Your Own Meaty Cheesy Spinach {No Boil} Lasagna

All you need to make this delicious lasagna is:

  • 2 – 1lb. 8oz  jars of your favorite Ragú® Sauce (We used the Old World Style Traditional Sauce).
  • 2 containers (15 oz. ea.) ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 eggs
  • 12 uncooked no-boil lasagna noodles
  • 5oz. bag of spinach
  • 1lb. lean ground beef (or other ground protein).

It’s simple to prep and make this lasagna and takes less than 15 minutes from start until it hits the oven.

Prep, cook and layer as pictured above and once you are done layer, top it with cheese and pop it in the oven at 375° for 1 hour.

Once your lasagna is baked, let it cool, cut and serve!

What Makes Our Mealtime Saucesome?

Fire Up the Grill with Kraft this 4th of July

It’s a well known fact that I am a lover of cheeseburgers. Honestly, I would eat them for every meal if it was an option. Now that summer is here, we are firing up the grill more, taking advantage of the weather and cooking some delicious meals.

Get Ready for Skylander’s Day at GameStop – June 27th

If you are a long time reader of this site, then you know that since he was just shy of 3 years old, Alexander has been a diehard Power Ranger fan. Everything he did involved Power Rangers and I thought that his obsession would never end.

And then it did.

Just before Christmas 2014, Alexander decided he was ready to move on and asked Santa for Skylanders Trap Team and boy oh boy did Santa deliver.

Not only did Alexander get Skylanders Trap Team for the Xbox One, he also got it to go with the new iPad mini that Santa brought him too!!

Since Christmas, a lot has changed around here. We’ve bought all kinds of Skylanders, purchased Skylanders shirts, pajamas, hats and we’ve even thrown a Skylanders themed birthday party.

Honestly, our lives have changed now that Alexander loves Skylanders. A friend of mine shared on Facebook that he had located the Kaos trap at the GameStop in our local mall and minutes later my husband was on the phone calling to see if they had any left and having them hold on to the last one as he raced to the mall to get it.

Yeah, we are now THOSE parents.

I enjoy watching Alexander play Skylanders because it’s awesome to watch him get so excited when he beats a level or he talks about what he is doing. He’s also very proud of his growning Skylanders collection.

Needless to say he’s looking forward to the new Skylanders game coming out later this year.

Celebrate Skylander’s Day

GameStop has decided that Skylanders and the fans deserve their own day and invite you to celebrate Skylander’s Day on Saturday, June 27th 2015. Be sure to stop in at your local GameStop and check out all of the awesome deals on Skylander’s Day and you can even pre-order Skylanders Superchargers!!
