Save on Gerber ® Lil’ Beanies(TM) at Target

Let’s talk about one of Joey’s favorite things….snack time. Or as he calls it, ‘nack time. If Joey had it his way, he would eat snack all day, every day.

Having a toddler that enjoys eating is great  seeing as how I have some picky eaters too. When it comes to Joey and his precious snack time, I like to make sure that he isn’t eating candy or sweets but I also like to have things that are quick and easy.

We recently discovered Gerber ® Lil’ Beanies(TM) at Target and they have quickly become one of Joey’s favorite snacks.

Gerber Lil’ Beanies is a nutritious snack made from navy beans that are packed with 2 grams of protein (9% Daily Value) and 1 gram of fiber per serving and they are not made with genetically engineered (GM) ingredients and have no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

Gerber® Lil’ Beanies(TM) are the perfect snack for Joey at home or on-the-go because they are mess free and easy enough for him to serve himself!

Win Some Skip Hop – Giveaway Ends 10/20

If your kids are anything like mine then I am sure when you head out the door somewhere that you are lugging all kinds of things with you. As our family has grown over the years, the amount of stuff that leaves the house with us has grown, exponentially.

Now that the kids are a little older, we have started letting them gather their own belongings before we are heading somewhere and we do so with the help of coordinating products from Skip Hop.

My love for Skip Hop products started when Alexander was younger and I discovered their adorable Ship Zoo Little Kid’s Monkey Backpack. Since we always referred to Alexander as our little monkey, it was the perfect bag to use with him as an on-the-go diaper bag. I loved that it was cute, it was small, and that he could also wear it around himself.

As Alexander got older, we added the matching stainless steel straw water bottle and snack cup to our collection.

Once our little Ellie came along, it was time to add to our collection again and along came the Owls. After Joey arrived, our collection grew more and we added the Elephants.

Why Coordinate?

Having a set of items for each kid that all matched has made it so much easier for us to make sure everything is ready for each kid. They all know which items are theirs and how to pack them all up and take them with when we go out. I have found that by having coordinating products for each of them also makes things move faster because no one is fighting over what belongs to who.

Skip Hop offers a wide variety of products that kids are sure to love. Everything from backpacks, water bottles, and snack cups to bibs, lunch boxes, umbrellas, rain coats and more. If you want your kids belongings to coordinate, Skip Hop is the way to go!

Simple Air Conditioner Maintenance Musts for Homeowners

It is great to feel comfortable at all times in your own home, which is why you want to keep your air conditioner in top shape, so that it doesn’t let you down when you need it most.

Using someone like Harster Heating and Air Conditioning to maintain your system is certainly one good way of keeping everything in good working order, and there are also some ways you can help to ensure your AC runs efficiently.

Your filter should be a priority

If there is one item that you need to focus your attention on more than others on your air conditioning unit, it is the air filter.

If you want to give your unit the best possible chance of running to its maximum level of efficiency and also to minimize the prospect of a breakdown, you should think about checking, cleaning and replacing your air filter on a regular basis.

If your filter is dirty or clogged, this will greatly impair the efficiency of your air conditioning unit, as airflow can be significantly reduced or even blocked when your air filter needs cleaning or changing.

An important reason why you should consider changing your air filter frequently is energy efficiency. By simply replacing your air filter with a reasonable degree of frequency, you could improve energy consumption figures by as much as 15%.

Check whether the filter is a reusable one or one that needs replacing and gauge how often you clean or change the filter, based on how often you use the unit and past experience of its normal lifespan.

Keeping the coil free of dirt

It should not be a surprise to learn that the evaporator and condenser coil in your air conditioner will accumulate dirt and grime over a period of time, although changing the air filter regularly can help to minimize the accumulation of dirt.

Despite this, regular use of your air conditioner will inevitable takes its toll on the evaporator and condenser coils. In much the same way that a dirty air filter reduces the performance of your system, a dirty and dusty coil will reduce airflow and this accumulation of dirt will have the effect of insulating the coil, impairing its ability to do its job of absorbing heat.

If your condenser coil is located outdoor, is is going to be even more susceptible to dirt and debris, such as fallen leaves. Keep the area clear around the coil and check its condition at least every season, to see what state it is in.

Give your system a break

As well as being diligent with your inspection schedule to keep on top of any problems, it will also help to give your air conditioning system a bit of a break whenever you can.

Try to raise the thermostat a few notches, with 72 degrees a good target if you can tolerate it. Also bear in mind that you will save roughly 4% on your monthly electricity bill for every degree that you raise the setting to on your thermostat, which should prove to be a decent incentive and a pleasant surprise when you get your next energy bill.

Another good way of using your air conditioning unit so that it gives you the best level of service for as long as possible, is to commit to keeping it on during the day, but turning it off throughout the night.

Check your window seals at the start of the season

As part of your maintenance schedule at the part of each cooling season, it is suggested that you carry out an inspection of the seal between the air conditioner and the window frame.

What you are looking for is to ensure that there is a good tight contact between the window frame and the metal case of the unit. It is quite common to find that moisture can penetrate and damage this seal, which will result in air escaping from your house, which is not something you want to happen.

During the winter months

A good way of preserving the integrity of your unit and protecting it during the winter period, is to either cover the unit while it is not in use, or even consider the idea of removing it and storing it, if that is feasible.

These are some of the main things that you can look at and do to keep your air conditioning functioning as it should, but the best advice if you want to get the best performance and longevity, is to hire a professional to maintain it and fix any problems that occur.

Mouthguard Smarts: What Parents Need to Know to Provide Their Kids with an Extra Dose of Protection

Does your child wear a mouthguard whilst they’re cycling? Did you know that they should be wearing mouthguards when playing any type of sport? Getting your child to wear a mouthguard may be something you thought about for contact sports but you may not have thought it necessary for day-to-day activities. Equally, if your child is of a young age, you may not have known that mouthguards are available for children of all ages.

However, protecting their teeth by using a mouthguard could help to prevent them from suffering a dental trauma, which is particularly important for the longevity and health of their adult teeth. A variety of mouthguards are available at a walk in dentist near you, or you may find that your local chemist or sports center has a variety available too.

Sports That Require Mouthguards

Cycling: Mouthguards are a must for children who are going out on their bikes. Even the most experienced or careful rider could hit a rock and find themselves being thrown forward face first to the ground. From BMX riders to mountain bikers on a trail, mouthguards will help to make sure your child’s teeth are as accident-proof as possible.

Skateboarding: Just like cycling, something unexpected can happen at any time in skateboarding, which is why a mouthguard is required to help prepare your child’s teeth for any eventuality. If you can, kit your child out with a mouthguard whenever they’re on their skateboard, regardless of whether they’re playing on your driveway or they’re down at the park with their friends.

Volleyball: You’d like to think that you’ll get your hands to the ball in volleyball, especially if you’re going to win the game. But, there may be times when the ball gets to your face before you’ve had chance to put your hands in front of it. So, make sure your child wears a mouthguard to protect their smile during this sport.

Softball / Baseball: These sports involve far less contact than the others but you’d be surprised at how much chance there is that a stray ball or face-plant could occur during this sport.

Surfing: Even though this is a sport that involves no contact, it’s the contact of the waves or surfboard that you should be wary of here. One big wave or wrong turn and your child could have a tooth knocked out, so have them wear a mouthguard to protect them from this.

What Traumas Mouthguards Protect Your Children From

There are a number of different oral traumas that your child can suffer from if they’re not wearing a mouthguard. These include having teeth knocked out, fracturing their tooth or having a tooth pushed into a gum. These can be incredibly painful and may lead to your child losing their tooth altogether, which is even worse if they’ve started to develop their adult teeth.

If any of these traumas occur, you should contact your dentist immediately and seek professional advice. However, if you can just get your child to wear their mouthguard whenever there’s a potential risk of sustaining such injuries, you could avoid a trip to the emergency room or your dentist!

Getting Your Child to Wear a Mouthguard

You’ve probably been reading the above thinking, “How on earth am I going to get my child to wear a mouthguard, especially when they’re playing with their friends?” Well, thankfully, dentists have thought of these scenarios and have developed a number of cool features that will help to encourage your child to wear a mouthguard.

Fun mouthguards include colorful ones that can be matched to their favorite team or color, with some dentists even offering branding on the guard. With this, your child can customize their guard to suit their favorite things so they can’t wait to pop it in their mouth and show it off to their friends. Some have even gone as far as creating mouthguards in a number of flavors, from strawberry to bubblegum. With the taste lasting quite a long time, this provides a sugary sweet way to get your child to wear their mouthguard whilst they’re playing their favorite sports.

Looking after mouthguards is easy too. Once they’ve been worn they just need to be rinsed out and cleaned like you would a set of dentures. A lot will come in hard cases too so they can just be popped away until your child needs them next.

Kids Bring Out Their Inner Robot with My 1st Career Gear

With the kids back in school, my afternoons are now spent alone with Joey. I am loving this one-on-one time with him and I really hope he is enjoying it too.

Since we have our afternoons together, I try to find things for him to do with me and on his own. Joey loves to play on his iPad, play games and even dress up.  When it comes to playing dress up, I love to see the creative side of him come out and tell stories.

Thanks to our friends at Aeromax and their My 1st Career Gear Robotic Engineer shirt and Robot Helmet, Joey has been busy being a space robot, as he calls it.

Joey is always talking about how he wants to be a robot and an astronaut and now, he’s a space robot!

We first discovered the My 1st Career line from Aeromax through a review back in 2013, 3 years later my kids are still using that same costume for dress up. With that being said, I can tell you that this line is made to last the everyday wear and tear of kids.

One thing we were really excited about this time around was the addition of a helmet to compliment the costume. I cannot describe how happy Joey was to see his new robot helmet complete with antennae and a facemask that opens. He told me that it opens just so he can give mommy robot kisses.

Another thing I love about this line is that it makes dress up play easy because you just have to slip the costume over your clothes and you are instantly transformed and they are perfect for kids ages 3 to 6 years.

If you have a child that enjoys playing dress up and using their imagination, be sure to check out the My 1st Career line from Aeromax!
