Since I am home with the kids, I like to do different things to encourage learning at home, even on the weekends when they are all here.
Both Alexander and Ellie ask why a lot of things happen or do what they do so when we were given the opportunity to check out the new Clifford Science Kits from The Young Scientists Club, we jumped at the opportunity.
“To entice the youngest of learners, The Young Scientists Club has licensed Clifford The Big Red Dog to “host” a series of simple science kits for the Pre-K crowd. The results have been applauded by parents and by toy industry judges from Oppenheim Toy Portfolio’s double prize of 2014 Gold Seal and 2014 SNAP – Special Needs Adaptable Product – Seal to Creative Child Magazine’s 2014 Preferred Choice Award. That’s two paws up in dog speak.”
We love both science and Clifford around here so I new this was going to be a hit with the kids so we sat down one Saturday afternoon and had some fun!
The kit comes with a guide, loaded with different science experiments to do with the kids and they are great kits to get preschoolers involved in science too.
We began our morning of science with some simple experiments with mirrors. The kids got to see how their reflections change when you bend a mirror in different ways and they thought it was really cool to go from normal to upside down with a simple bend.
Joey couldn’t figure out what was going on!
We also made a kaleidoscope.
We learned about rainbows and even looked at some through our 3D glasses.
And then we got everything ready to grow some crystals.
They would have turned out different colors had someone not mixed all of our colors together in the dish but in the end, the kids were happy with the results and think the crystals are pretty cool.
All in all, we had a fun science filled Saturday and the kids can’t wait to do it again.
The Young Scientists Club Clifford The Big Red Dog Science Kits are geared towards kids ages 3 to 5 and give them the chance to explore and engage them in the world around them. Why not introduce science at a young age and getting children interested in STEM?
