Arts & Crafts

It’s no secret that our little Tatertot, like the rest of our kids, likes to help out in the kitchen. He loves to help when we are cooking or baking and will jump at every chance he gets.

My only problem with him helping in the kitchen is he is not the most graceful little dude ( he gets it from his dad) and he likes to make a mess. When he is helping I’m always worried that he will get something on his clothes and ruin them or worse, something hot will splatter and burn him.

We recently received an awesome truck apron for the boy to wear when helping out in the kitchen or even when participating in a messy art activity from BuyCuteAprons.com.

This apron is great. It has the perfect design for him, keeps his clothes clean and dry and protects him. Another bonus about this apron is that it is super durable and easy to clean.

He absolutely loves it and has made it a permanent fixture on the doorknob in the kitchen when it is not in use. We have used it to protect him while cooking, painting, playing with play dough, coloring with markers and even while eating ice cream.

This apron is a very versatile item and we are glad to have it in our home. Now it is my mission to find an apron that I love just as much as he loves his and one for Bean when she gets bigger!

BuyCuteAprons.com carries a variety of designs of aprons and smocks and is based in the UK but kindly ships to the US as well. Be sure to check them out for all of your children’s cooking apron needs!

Disclaimer: I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Tatertot loves play dough and we tend to go thru A LOT of it since he likes to get real creative and mix colors when he is in creative mode. Because of his obsession with play dough I have learned that it is more cost effective to make our own play dough at home than it is to continuously buy it. Being a former day care teacher, I have a lot of awesome recipes for different things in this head of mine and the play dough recipe I use is wonderful.
All you need is:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon oil
Food coloring
Storage containers

Mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a saucepan. Mix water, oil and food coloring together and gradually stir into dry ingredients. Cook over medium heat stirring until dough forms into a ball. Remove from heat and knead until smooth.

I personally like to make bigger batches, mix it up, separate it into large ziploc bags and then add the food coloring and let Tatertot mix it together by squishing it around in the bag. It is another great sensory project before he even gets to play with the dough!

I also love that by mixing it in the bag you get a marbled result….I just think it looks really neat!

Enjoy!

We happen to go through A LOT of crayons in our house. I feel like I am constantly buying them. Over the years Zman & Drama Queen were required to have crayons in their school supplies which always left us with baggies of crayon remnants at the end of the year. Now that Tatertot is into coloring I have found that he performs better with the thick chunky crayons but these tend to be cost a bit more than your standard crayon so we decided to put our crayon remnants to good use and make our own chunky toddler tie dyed crayons.
